SIR SAFETY PERUGIA – MODENA VOLLEY 1-3 (22-25, 25-20, 22-25, 21-25) – SIR SAFETY PERUGIA: Buti 8, Fromm 11, Paolucci, De Cecco 2, Giovi (L), Barone, Beretta 2, Vujevic, Atanasijevic 30, Sunder, Maruotti 7. DNP Fanuli. coach. Grbic.

MODENA VOLLEY: Mossa De Rezende 3, Sala 7, Petric 24, Boninfante, Casadei, Rossini (L), Ngapeth 19, Piano 7, Verhees 1, Ishikawa, Vettori 17. DNP Donadio, Kovacevic. Coach. Lorenzetti.

Splendid atmosphere in the sold out PalaEvangelisti arena for the big game of the day, TLed by former Perugia star and MVP of the Gme, Peric, the visitors had a better performance in attack and at the net leading to a 3-1 victory. An outstanding Atanasijevic (30 points) was not enough for the hosts who had too many ups and downs.

Aleksandar Atanasijevic (Sir Safety Perugia): “We really wanted to win this game and we tried our very best. Unfortunately, we had to make many changes due to injuries and we had less consistency than Modena. We have to regroup and focus on the next game”.

Luca Vettori (Modena Volley): “I really want to spend a few words to thank the medical staff who handled perfectly a tricky situation when a supporters suddenly felt badly ill. I am an athlete and I realize how important it is. As for the game, it went well in spite of all the serves we missed. It was very important for us to get a good result after our two consecutive defeats”.

CALZEDONIA VERONA – CUCINE LUBE BANCA MARCHE TREIA 3-1 (25-17, 25-23, 18-25, 25-22) – CALZEDONIA VERONA: Zingel 9, Coscione 1, Pesaresi (L), Gitto, Gasparini 21, Deroo 13, White 1, Bellei, Sander 14, Anzani 13. DNP Blasi, Centomo, Borgogno. coach. Giani.

CUCINE LUBE BANCA MARCHE TREIA: Henno (L), Parodi 15, Paparoni (L), Stankovic 10, Kovar 1, Sabbi 16, Monopoli, Shumov 4, Kurek 11, Baranowicz 3, Podrascanin 7. DNP Fei, Vitelli, Bonacic. Coach. Giuliani.

The best moment of the game, and that can only happen in volleyball, is when the home crowd encouraged Sabbi by chanting his name when he fell down with his ankle hurt. The Macerata fans responded with their own “Verona, Verona” chant.

And Verona made it a special 400th appearance in the Serie A with a 3-1 victory over the Italian champions. The hosts played at a top level with 12 blocks, 51% in attack and Simone Anzani MVP as he tallied 7 blocks for 13 total points.

Simone Anzani (Calzedonia Verona): “We had a good game but they did not play bad either. We were up against the Italian champs, we’re thrilled with the win. That will give us a lot of energy, this goes to show we have a big potential. We can’t afford to have lapses but when we play with maximum determination we proved we could give a game to anyone”.

Alberto Giuliani (Cucine Lube Banca Marche Treia): “That was an evening filled with various problems, Henno felt ill during the game, Sabbi got injured… Despite all this, we were in the game, ahead in the second and fourth set, a bit more composure could have led to a different result. Sander had a good run of serves in the last set, credit to them for winning it, we did not play too bad. I tried a bit of everything today, not because of players not performing but because of the problems we faced. Even Stankovic was not feeling too good today. I repeat, in spite of all the worries, we had two sets in our hands by playing good volleyball, but we did not have the consistency to get back on track when Verona had good runs. In three days we’ll be on court against Latina, we’ll need to be focused and angry”.

VERO VOLLEY MONZA – TOP VOLLEY LATINA 3-1 (13-25, 25-22, 25-23, 25-22)

VERO VOLLEY MONZA: Elia 6, Gotsev 12, Tiberti, Galliani 9, Padura Diaz 15, De Pandis (L), Jovovic 5, Botto 22, Wang, Bonetti. DNP Procopio, Vigil Gonzalez. Coach. Vacondio.

TOP VOLLEY LATINA: Manià (L), Rauwerdink 8, Sottile 6, Skrimov 6, Tailli, Van De Voorde 15, Rossi 7, Starovic 19, Semenzato 1, Urnaut 15. DNP Pellegrino, Davis. Coach. Blengini.

Monza and Latina made it an entertaining game. Vacondio’s team obtained a second consecutive victory, the first at home, by defeating an excellent Latina team. MVP: Botto.

Oreste Vacondio (Coach Vero Volley Monza): “That was an important victory. We have 9 points and we’re starting to dream. This is an extraordinary group, they’re hungry and united. We’re still adapting to the top division but I think the boys are getting better. We still have a lot to improve to avoid the bad spells. But I think that little by little we’re showing we deserve to be in the SuperLega”.

Daniele Sottile (Top Volley Latina): “I don’t know what went wrong. We had an excellent first set, we played very good volleyball, our volleyball. In the second, we were ahead then we just ran into trouble on our own. They took advantage and won the set. Then they played brilliantly in the third by playing great dig on every rally. We have to bounce back now. This loss must help us to understand that if you don’t play at 100% against everyone, then you finish on the losing end. Still, congratulations to Monza who had a great game”.

TONAZZO PADOVA – ENERGY T.I. DIATEC TRENTINO 0-3 (21-25, 23-25, 19-25)

TONAZZO PADOVA: Mattei 6, Orduna 1, Giannotti 10, Balaso (L), Gozzo, Rosso 10, Volpato 4, Garghella, Aguillard 1, Milan, Quiroga 9. DNP Vianello, Beccaro. Coach. Baldovin.

ENERGY T.I. DIATEC TRENTINO: Kaziyski 13, Nelli 6, Zygadlo 1, Nemec 4, Lanza 16, Solé 6, Colaci (L), Burgsthaler 4. DNP Birarelli, Thei, Giannelli, Mazzone, Fedrizzi. Coach. Stoytchev.

Padova was looking for a reaction following their loss against Monza but that was mission impossible against the league leaders of Trento as the coach of the Argentine national team Julio Velasco was the special guest of the encounter.

Andrea Mattei (Tonazzo Padova): “We needed to react after our defeat against Monza. The result is disappointing but we played with a good attitude, and this is that attitude we’ll need in the coming games. Once again today, we made a few mistakes too many but let’s look to the future with optimism”.

Matey Kaziyski (Energy T.I. Diatec Trentino): “We did a good job of coming back from behind both in the second and third set. These are three crucial points taken on an away game that was not easy. Now we’ll have several games in just a few days, so we’ll need to keep our focus and maintain that level of play and this attitude”.

CMC RAVENNA – COPRA PIACENZA 3-0 (25-22, 25-19, 25-21)

CMC RAVENNA: Mengozzi 5, Cavanna 4, Zappoli 9, Gabriele, Goi (L), Zanatta Buiatti 10, Cester 5, Bari (L), Mc Kibbin, Cebulj 15. DNP Ricci, Jeliazkov, Koumentakis. Coach. Kantor.

COPRA PIACENZA: Alletti 10, Marra (L), Poey 4, Ter Horst 1, Da Silva Pedreira Junior (L), Massari 8, Zlatanov 14, Ostapenko 5, Tencati, Kohut 1, Rodrigues Tavares 6. DNP Page, Papi. Coach. Radici.

Ravenna made the double over Piacenza this season, and once again it was a sweep. The visitors were without Vermiglio, who’s off to Iran, and Papi because of back pains. And Ravenna played excellent volleyball too, well guided by Cavanna, with Cebulj in form in attack, while Bari and Goi did the work in dig.

Andrea Radici (coach Copra Piacenza): “The sudden departure of Vermiglio is part of the game and the market but it’s undeniable that it created problems that got bigger with the under-par performance from Poey. We have to get back to training and work with our new line-up and we will do it with maximum effort”.

Waldo Kantor (coach CMC Ravenna): “We did a good job of not making mistakes, we knew that was the key to the game. We had a slight lapse in the third set but we immediately got on track thanks to our serve”.

EXPRIVIA NELDIRITTO MOLFETTA – REVIVRE MILANO 3-0 (25-23, 28-26, 25-20)

EXPRIVIA NELDIRITTO MOLFETTA: Candellaro 5, Noda Blanco, Sket 14, Del Vecchio 10, Spirito, Romiti (L), Bossi 7, Hierrezuelo 4, Despaigne Jurquin, Torres 18. DNP Michelucci Moralez, Blagojevic. Coach. Di Pinto.

REVIVRE MILANO: Bencz 24, Bermudez, Kauliakamoa Jr 1, Patriarca 9, Rizzo (L), Mattera 1, De Togni 3, Dos Santos 7, Veres 10, Preti 2, Valsecchi. DNP Cerbo. Coach. Maranesi.

An hour and a half was enough for Molfetta to get rid of Milan, though the visitors never gave up.

Raydel Hierrezuelo (Exprivia Neldiritto Molfetta): “We have improved a lot our reception of late and with the addition of Torres we have become more confident in attack. This is crucial for a team like us, we needed to bounce back and we did it brightly after the Ravenna game. This is my first time in Italy, this is an important and unique experience. These fans are amazing”.

Marco Rizzo (Revivre Milano): “We knew it was going to be a tough game, I know this gym very well. We lose sets by the minimum margin, this means we play well but we lack that killer instinct at the end of sets”.
