2015 CEV DenizBank Champions League

Dragons Lugano (SUI) – Copra Piacenza 2-3 (18-25, 25-22, 25-22, 33-35, 13-15)

Sir Safety Perugia – Noliko Maaseik (BEL) 3-0 (25-19, 25-20, 25-20)

BELOGORIE BELGOROD – CUCINE LUBE TREIA 3-0 (25-22, 25-22, 25-19)

BELOGORIE BELGOROD: Khtey 8, Smolyar 8, Tetyukhin 8, Grozer 17, Bragin (L), Muserskiy 11, Travica 1, Zhigalov. DNP Safonov, Kosarev, Ilinykh, Bagrey. Coach. Shipulin.

CUCINE LUBE TREIA: Henno (L), Parodi 8, Paparoni (L), Stankovic 5, Kovar 7, Sabbi 17, Monopoli, Shumov, Kurek 1, Baranowicz 2, Podrascanin 4. DNP Bonacic. Coach. Giuliani.

Treia could do very little in the house of the European Champions. Led by former Macerata star Dragan Travica, Belgorod got rid of the Italian champs in straight sets. Shipulin’s men were always ahead thanks to a superb 62% in attack. They also had 6 aces and 6 blocks. Treia’s Giulio Sabbia finied top scorer with 19 points and 57% in attack.

Alberto Giuliani (coach Cucine Lube Treia): “It’s clear that in the clutch time of the sets their servers, and especially Grozer, made the difference. But we have been in it for most of the game by playing at a good level as a team. It’s obvious we still have to work a lot on our serve, especially Sabbi, but the others too, we need to improve this aspect to be sharper away from home”.

#DRAGONS LUGANO – COPRA VOLLEY PIACENZA 2-3 (18-25, 25-22, 25-22, 33-35, 13-15) – #DRAGONS LUGANO: Brander, Gelasio, Del Valle Villalobos (L), Provenzano De Pra 20, Felicio De Jesus 8, Jakovljevic 34, Aguilera Armendariz 13, Sanders 1, Gotch 11. DNP Salas Moreno, Gimenez, Savic. Coach. Motta.

COPRA VOLLEY PIACENZA: Alletti 14, Marra, Poey Romero 25, Vermiglio 5, Papi 2, Ter Horst 9, Da Silva Pedreira Junior (L), Massari 14, Zlatanov 11, Tencati 3, Kohut 11. DNP Tavares Rodrigues. Coach. Radici.

Difficult games with ups on downs for Piacenza in Lugano. It was all one-way traffic for the Italians in the first set but Motta’s men stepped up in the next two sets. The Swiss got Piacenza on their knees thanks to some excellent serving, so much so that coach Radici decided to send all his senators on court to try to be more solid. They pushed the host to the tie-break with Tencati as star man as the guests eventually came away with a crucial victory, which sends Piacenza second of the group.

Andrea Radici (coach Copra Piacenza): “The game started brightly for us, but then in the second and third set, we did not play too well but credit to them for serving that well. Fortunately, the team managed to get back on its feet. I have to say a few words on Tencati, who had a huge game and was key in the important moments of the match. We played top level volleyball in the tie-break and that got us that important win that gets us second”.

SIR SAFETY PERUGIA – NOLIKO MAASEIK 3-0 (25-19, 25-20, 25-20)

SIR SAFETY PERUGIA : Fromm 11, Paolucci 1, Giovi (L), Barone 5, Tzioumakas 5, Beretta 8, Atanasijevic 8, Fanuli (L), Maruotti 12. DNP Buti, Cricco, Vujevic. Coach. Grbic.

NOLIKO MAASEIK : Dumont (L), Broshog 7, Raymaekers 9, Lecat 10, HÖhne, Parkinson, Padar 7, Grozdanov 7, Lushtak 3. DNP Beesmans, Beesmans, Finoli. Coach. Verstraten

In front of over 2000 fans, Perugia sent the same line-up as in recent games with Paolucci setter and Fanuli in Giovi’s place. It’s all been comfortable for the hosts who led during all three sets by making very few mistakes and playing with an excellent flow. That was Perugia’s fourth consecutive win in Europe.

Rocco Barone (Sir Safety Perugia): “That was an extremely important result for us. It was crucial to take the three points to go through. We did it, everybody worked hard and we had the push from the crowd. Now we’ll focus on Sunday’s league game”.

Matias Raymaekers (Noliko Maseeik): “We’ve never been in the game, not even when their serve were easy to catch. We failed to bring the balls close to the net and build a positive attack. And against such a good team you get punished. We’ve been poor in all fundamentals, starting with the serve which failed to make it hard for their reception and consequently their attack”.

Trentino’s first ever trip to Israel was a very positive one. Mission accomplished for Stoytchev’s men who swept Maccabi and qualified for the CEV Cup quarter-finals. They will face the Romanian side of SMC U Craiova in the next round.

Radostin Stoytchev (coach Energy T.I. Diatec Trentino): “You can never take for granted to go through in a European competition. I am therefore satisfied with the qualification and the performance, we haven’t done much wrong. We had it all under control but we have to bear in mind the value of our opponent who, like in the first leg, never really put us to the test. Now we’ll have just two days to prepare our next game which will definitely be much tougher than this one. We have been studying Modena for days, we will give 110%”.

Kantor’s men had shaky moments at the start of the first set as well as at the end of the second but on both occasions they found the resources to turn things around. Ravenna’s next opponent will be the Czech side of Liberec.

Andrea Bari (CMC Ravenna): “Tartu definitely played better than in the first leg and they made it hard for us but we have always managed to fight back. We want to go as far as possible in Europe but now we’ll focus on the league”. <SPAN style="FONT-SIZE: 12pt; FONT-FAMILY: 'Times New Roman','serif';
