SIR SAFETY PERUGIA – REVIVRE MILANO 3-1 (22-25, 25-17, 25-19, 25-19)

SIR SAFETY PERUGIA: Fromm 23, Paolucci 3, Barone 10, Beretta 9, Vujevic 7, Atanasijevic 22, Fanuli (L), Maruotti. DNP Buti, Cricco, Giovi, Tzioumakas. Coach. Grbic.

REVIVRE MILANO: Bencz 16, Bermudez 2, Kauliakamoa Jr 2, Cerbo, Patriarca 3, Rizzo (L), Mattera 1, De Togni 7, Dos Santos, Veres 14, Preti 8, Valsecchi 5. Coach. Maranesi.

The Palaevangelistsi was as packed as ever as Perugia played host to Milan in round 9.

Christian Fromm was named MVP as the hosts won it 3-1.

Adriano Paolucci (Sir Safety Perugia): “It’s been complicated from the start, and we knew it because we had to make a lot of changes in the line-up. We settled in from the halfway point of the first set, even if that was too late to win it. I want to thank my teammates, who really helped me, they really made my come-back easier”.

Giorgio De Togni (Revivre Milano): “We played some good volleyball in the first set, but when they stepped up we couldn’t stop them and faded. Besides, when Vujevic came on their reception improved. Let’s take the positive out of this game to work for the difficult derby we have next”.

VERO VOLLEY MONZA – CUCINE LUBE BANCA MARCHE TREIA 0-3 (19-25, 19-25, 20-25) – VERO VOLLEY MONZA: Elia 3, Gotsev 4, Tiberti 1, Galliani 4, Padura Diaz 16, De Pandis (L), Jovovic, Vigil Gonzalez 1, Botto 11, Wang, Bonetti 1, Cominetti. DNP Procopio. Coach. Vacondio.

CUCINE LUBE BANCA MARCHE TREIA: Henno (L), Parodi 12, Paparoni (L), Stankovic 5, Kovar 10, Sabbi 12, Monopoli, Bonacic, Shumov, Baranowicz 3, Podrascanin 12. DNP Fei, Vitelli, Kurek. Coach. Giuliani.

Monza fought hard, they gave everything they had but could not deny Treia in front of nearly 2400 fans. MVP: Simone Parodi

Oreste Vacondio (Coach Vero Volley Monza): “Treia is a top quality team, we knew that. I think the biggest difference in the first two sets was in the blocking. I think they got more blocks than us. Still, I liked the fact the boys showed character, they didn’t just turn up to be passively dominated. This is very important ahead of next week’s derby”.

Jiri Kovar (Cucine Lube Banca Marche Treia):“We knew it was not going to be easy. We did a good job and took the three points. We have to try to win every game, starting with the one on Saturday against Perugia”.

EXPRIVIA NELDIRITTO MOLFETTA – CALZEDONIA VERONA 0-3 (24-26, 14-25, 24-26) – EXPRIVIA NELDIRITTO MOLFETTA: Candellaro 5, Noda Blanco 5, Sket 7, Del Vecchio, Spirito, Romiti (L), Kooistra 11, Puliti, Bossi 9, Blagojevic, Hierrezuelo 6. DNP Porcelli, Piscopo. Coach. Di Pinto.

CALZEDONIA VERONA: Zingel 9, Coscione 1, Pesaresi (L), Blasi, Gasparini 10, Deroo 10, White, Centomo (L), Bellei, Sander 17, Anzani 10. DNP Gitto, Borgogno. Coach. Giani.

Verona inflicted Molfetta a severe 3-0 defeat in its own house though it was not easy by any means. Molfetta made too many mistakes in reception in a game it definitely could have got something more. Taylor Sander was named MVP as he scored 17 points with 68% in attack.

Sergio Noda Blanco (Exprivia Neldiritto Molfetta): “We did a good job of staying close till the end for two sets. The first set lost made itself felt in the second. Verona is an excellent team, while we probably have to get better and make the most of the opportunities that come our way against those teams who don’t give you many chances. It would be nice to finish in the top 8. It’s tough, we’ll take on Piacenza and last year’s two finalists but we have to fight for it”.

Andrea Giani (Coach Calzedonia Verona): “The first set was very tight but we eventually managed to come back from 24-22 down. In the second, we imposed our game, while in the third our intensity dropped but we had the composure to get the winning break in the end. We have been able to improve our level game after game, we have learnt to stay in the game all the time. Today Gasparini was not at his best on the serve but I want to congratulate the whole team”.

TONAZZO PADOVA – CMC RAVENNA 1-3 (23-25, 25-20, 23-25, 18-25)

TONAZZO PADOVA: Mattei 2, Orduna 3, Giannotti 21, Balaso (L), Gozzo 1, Rosso 10, Volpato 5, Garghella, Aguillard 4, Milan, Beccaro, Quiroga 20. DNP Vianello. Coach. Baldovin.

CMC RAVENNA: Mengozzi 10, Cavanna 4, Zappoli 5, Gabriele, Jeliazkov 6, Koumentakis 3, Goi (L), Zanatta Buiatti 8, Cester 12, Bari (L), Mc Kibbin, Cebulj 17. DNP Ricci. Coach. Kantor.

Interesting game between Padova and Ravenna, a fixture that had produced a classic sold-out series in the battle for promotion in 2010. MVP Maximiliano Cavanna showed the way for Ravenna, who goes home with a 3-1 victory.

Valerio Baldovin (Coach Tonazzo Padova): “This is a game we could have won. We stayed in it in the first set too despite the many mistakes on the serve. This  defeats really hurts, because we did not do well in front of our fans this time. Hopefully, the fact we’ll be rested in the next round will allow us to recharge our batteries”.

Zanatta Buiatti Renan (CMC Ravenna): “This is an extremely important win for us, because Padova played great dig today and made it hard for us. I did not have a great game, but I only did three training sessions since I came back. We’ll keep going knowing there aren’t any easy games in this SuperLega”.

TOP VOLLEY LATINA – COPRA PIACENZA 2-3 (25-20, 15-25, 25-23, 21-25, 11-15)

TOP VOLLEY LATINA: Manià (L), Rauwerdink 8, Sottile 1, Skrimov 12, Tailli, Van De Voorde 6, Rossi 4, Starovic 29, Semenzato 1, Urnaut 8. DNP Ferenciac, Pellegrino. Coach. Blengini.

COPRA PIACENZA: Alletti 16, Marra (L), Poey 34, Vermiglio 2, Papi 2, Ter Horst, Da Silva Pedreira Junior (L), Massari 13, Zlatanov 14, Ostapenko 11, Tencati 1. DNP Page, Kohut, Rodrigues Tavares. Coach. Radici.

The big game of this round certainly did not disappoint the expectations. Five intense sets played at a high level. Piacenza put an end to its three-game losing streak and took two points. Piacenza made it tough for Latina with its serves, especially the ones from Alletti. Latina had to make do without Urnaut in the third set because of an ankle sprain. In the fifth, a Starovic counter and a mistake from Piacenza gave the early initiative to Latina (2-0) but Ostapenko (ace) and Poey (counter) took Piacenza 4-3 ahead. Alletti took charge for an 8-5 lead and Zlatanov made it a four-point set (8-12). The MVP Poey would score the winning point at 15-11.

Aimone Alletti (Copra Piacenza): “Very nervous game, what mattered were the points for us after our negative run. Hopefully, this will be a turning point in our season”.

Andrea Semenzato (Top Volley Latina): “Shame because at 2-1, we starting to think we could make it. We find it hard when it’s tight, if we want to stand towards the top of the table, we have to win those games”.
