Piacenza obtained its first Champions League victory in its third attempt in the League Round. In front of 2400 fans, Zlatanov and co registered a 3-1 victory over the Swiss of Lugano, which keeps their chance of qualification alive. Massari and Ter Horst finished top scorer with 16 points each, Zlatanov chipped in 13 (2 blocks). Piacenza was more efficient in every fundamental: 8 ace to 2, 64 to 56% in reception, 48 to 40% in attack, and 10 blocks to 7.

Andrea Radici (Coach Copra Volley Piacenza): “We really needed this win, especially for the spirit of the group. We’re clearly glad of the three points too. The team played with a bit of pressure, the guys were never loose. In the third set, that lack of confidence showed and our opponent did a good job of taking advantage”.

Mario Motta (Coach #Dragons Lugano): “We had some good spells when we did not exclusively play on our physical side. And when we did that we played well, but when we just wanted to hit it as hard as we could, our level dropped. What made it difficult for us was our serve, you just have to look at the number of aces between Piacenza and us. They deserved to win, I wish Zlatanov and co to have a good run in the Champions League”.

2015 CEV Cup

8th of finals first leg

Energy T.I. Diatec Trentino (ITA) – Maccabi Tel Aviv (ISR) 3-0 (25-16, 25-12, 25-20)

ENERGY T.I. DIATEC TRENTINO – MACCABI TEL AVIV 3-0 (25-16, 25-12, 25-20)

ENERGY T.I. DIATEC TRENTINO: Kaziyski 11, Nelli 9, Zygadlo 3, Nemec 7, Thei, Giannelli 3, SolÉ 9, Mazzone 1, Colaci (L), Fedrizzi 8, Burgsthaler 3. DNP Birarelli. Coach. Stoytchev.

MACCABI TEL AVIV: Poylov 5, Shwartz-shmoel (L), Abel 12, Cohen, Kudrjasovs 10, Kopech 2, Ben Gal, Shachar, Sokolov 5. DNP Corenstein, Gessen, Shemesh. Coach. Zohar Bar Netzer.

Trentino collected its tenth victory of the season in its CEV Cup 8th of finals first leg against Maccabi Tel Aviv. This 3-0 win means Birarelli and co will only need two sets in the return leg to go through. From the start the Israelis struggled to go past the Italians at the net: 14 total blocks, 4 for the MVP Solé. And they struggled to receive their serve (10 aces coming from 6 different players). Trento was dominating so much that coach Stoytchev could rest some players and sent young setter Giannelli and outside hitter Nelli (12 points in one set and a half).

Radostin Stoytchev (coach Energy T.I. Diatec Trentino): “The only thing that could have gone wrong in this game is if we’d suddenly unconsciously lost our concentration. We did not lose our focus and got the result that gets us in a comfortable situation ahead of the return leg. I took that opportunity to give the youngsters a bit of experience but even for them that was not a really indicative test”.
