ALTOTEVERE CITTà DI CASTELLO-SANSEPOLCRO – VERO VOLLEY MONZA 3-1 (25-22, 28-26, 21-25, 25-22) – ALTOTEVERE CITTà DI CASTELLO-SANSEPOLCRO: Teppan, Corvetta 2, Daldello, Tosi (L), Della Lunga 19, Aganits 3, Maric 20, Randazzo 20, Mazzone 8. DNP Franceschini, Lensi, Dolfo, Baroti. Coach. Montagnani.

Città di Castello took maximum points for the first time this season thanks to a 3-1 win over Monza. Just over a thousand supporters watched on as Goran Maric was named MVP of the game.

Simone Tiberti (Vero Volley Monza): “The game was decided on details, they did a good job in clutch time, which allowed them to take the points. We have a young group and I try to bring them my experience. Obviously winning would give us a boost”.

Dore Della Lunga (Altotevere Città di Castello-Sansepolcro): “Very happy with the three points taken in a game we had to win. We got off to a good start, we faded in the third, which allowed them to get back in it given that they were consistent throughout. This is how this league goes, we have to get the maximum out of those games against the team we can really beat, today we managed to do that and we’re satisfied”.

CALZEDONIA VERONA – TONAZZO PADOVA 3-1 (26-28, 25-21, 25-22, 25-21)

CALZEDONIA VERONA: Zingel, Coscione, Pesaresi (L), Gitto 4, Gasparini 16, Deroo 19, White, Bellei, Sander 19, Anzani 16. DNP Blasi, Centomo, Borgogno. Coach. Giani.

TONAZZO PADOVA: Mattei 11, Orduna 1, Giannotti 9, Balaso (L), Rosso 21, Volpato 10, Garghella 1, Milan 3, Quiroga 11. DNP Vianello, Gozzo, Aguillard, Beccaro. Coach. Baldovin.

Verona won the Venetian derby with a second consecutive win following the one over Monza last week. Gasparini reached a thousand points with the Verona shirt. Zingel was cautiously rested and was substituted by Carmelo Gitto. Mvp: Deroo

Mitja Gasparini (Calzedonia Verona): “I am extremely satisfied with the three points, we found it hard only in the first set even if personally I always felt good about this game. We just needed composure and to play good as a team to get better and then some individual plays helped to seal the remaining sets. Victories do you a lot of good because this makes you aware of your qualities and they give you confidence for the week. The thousand point milestone? I hope to score another thousand”.

Valerio Baldovin (coach Tonazzo Padova): “We played very well as a team, we managed to hang on firm in reception even when they hit it hard. Giannotti? He often made us win games, today that wasn’t to be, even if he still did his part. We’re on the right track to improve and get the positive results we want. Verona proved it was a really strong team but we fought hard in every set and I am satisfied with that”.

CMC RAVENNA – MODENA VOLLEY 0-3 (15-25, 20-25, 29-31)

CMC RAVENNA: Mengozzi 7, Cavanna 1, Zappoli 2, Gabriele 1, Jeliazkov 7, Koumentakis 4, Goi (L), Cester 7, Bari (L), Mc Kibbin, Cebulj 12. DNP Ricci. Coach. Kantor.

MODENA VOLLEY: Mossa De Rezende, Sala, Petric 17, Boninfante, Casadei, Rossini (L), Ngapeth, Piano 9, Verhees 9, Kovacevic 13, Vettori 15. DNP Donadio. Coach. Lorenzetti.

Ravenna ended its run against three giants (Trento-Perugia-Modena) without a point but among the applause. Indeed, with Renan back and some easier games to come, there’s a feeling the team has what it takes to reach its target and finish in the top 8. Ravenna stepped up in the second set after a poor first one though Petric and Vettori eventually sealed it for Modena. In the third, Ravenna had a set ball it could not convert but that is a team that never gives up. MVP Petric

Angelo Lorenzetti (coach Modena Volley): “We should not put so much pressure on the team talking about league table. We should only care about getting better game after game. We made mistakes only at the end of the third set, and even then the double substitution worked out fine”.

Waldo Kantor (coach CMC Ravenna): “The team played with a positive attitude again, and you could see that in the come-backs of the second and third sets. That’s why I am optimist for the future, starting with Wednesday’s cup game”.

ENERGY T.I. DIATEC TRENTINO – CUCINE LUBE BANCA MARCHE TREIA 3-2 (21-25, 25-23, 16-25, 25-18, 16-14) – ENERGY T.I. DIATEC TRENTINO: Kaziyski 14, Nelli 9, Birarelli 10, Zygadlo 1, Nemec 11, Giannelli, Lanza 18, Solé 10, Mazzone, Colaci (L), Fedrizzi 2, Burgsthaler. DNP Thei. Coach. Stoytchev.

Treia was beaten for the first time in this regular season in the big game of this 8th round by Trento. At 2-1 up, Trento stepped up a gear to eventually clinch it at the tie-break as it was led by the outstanding Lanza (18 points and MVP of the game), and Kaziyski and Nemec, who had begun the game respectively poorly and from the bench. Trento moves up to third just one point behind Treia, who paid the price for an inaccurate attack (11 mistakes, 40%). The key to the success for Trento was 16 blocks against only 9 for Treia.

Massimo Colaci (ENERGY T.I. Diatec Trentino): “In some ways this is a surprising and unexpected win, but well deserved because we never stopped believing when we fell 2-1 behind. We’ve been exceptional in the come-back, and we did not give up either in the tie-break, when Treia did a great job of coming back in after a difficult start. Let’s enjoy those two points and this important win for our fans too”.

Alberto Giuliani (coach Cucine Lube Banca Marche Treia): “Trento plays and serves very well at home, while we don’t always follow our philosophy on the road: with the reception away from the net tonight we got stuck on their blocks too often, which got us in trouble. But we still got a point from a very tough road game. I made a lot of substitutions, Sabbi only trained on Friday and did not have a game under his belt, congratulations to our medical staff who allowed us to have him with us”.

REVIVRE MILANO – TOP VOLLEY LATINA 0-3 (20-25, 22-25, 21-25)

REVIVRE MILANO: Bencz 14, Bermudez 1, Kauliakamoa Jr 2, Cerbo, Rizzo (L), Mattera 1, De Togni 4, Dos Santos 5, Veres 10, Preti 3, Valsecchi 7. DNP Patriarca. Coach. Maranesi.

TOP VOLLEY LATINA: Manià (L), Rauwerdink 1, Sottile 2, Skrimov 2, Tailli, Van De Voorde 12, Rossi 3, Starovic 14, Semenzato, Urnaut 18. DNP Ferenciac, Pellegrino, Davis. Coach. Blengini.

Milan could not get its first home win and make it two in a row following last week’s first road victory in Padova. Latina clinched it and erased the disappointment of last week’s near breakthrough against Trento (2-3). The Slovenian spiker Urnaut scored 18 points with 54% in attack and was named MVP (4 blocks). Starovic and Van De Voorde had good games too and finished in double figures (14 and 12 points). As for Milan, Valsecchi did 6 out of 7 in attack, while Veres and Bencz (10 and 14) had ups and downs.

Marco Maranesi (coach Revivre Milano): “We have not been consistent enough, we made too many mistakes and we’d really need less errors, especially from the most experienced players. On the one hand, I always had the feeling we were close to our opponent, but at the same time that we could not make it because of our mistakes”.

Tine Urnaut (Top Volley Latina): “We had a good start, we were extremely concentrated because we knew Milan is used to start off well at home. We loosened up halfway through each set and managed to build a gap. Overall, we played a good game, we did well in the block-dig department. We wanted the three points and we got them. My MVP award? I am glad but I can still improve, and the most important thing is the team anyway”.
