Just like gladiators in the arena, in the end the Block Devils won the battle against Tours. This was a thrilling encounter in France, maybe not perfect technically but exciting. The Italians needed all the fighting spirit they could find to wipe out three match points for the hosts in the fourth set. In the end, the will to win of Grbic’s men prevailed. Atanasijevic was as amazing as usual: the Serbian outside hitter scored 30 as setter De Cecco remained under control and chipped in 7 points. Important Vujevic and Barone when they came on in the fourth. And this was precisely captain Vujevic who scored the winning block on Hoag, which means Perugia made it two out of two. Important to underline the return of Andrea Giovi who came on from the second set and was key at the end of that set with great digs.

In its 100th game on the International scene, Trento celebrated qualification into the CEV Cup 8th of finals. After the promising win obtained in Serbia two weeks ago, the Italians did not have much trouble to get rid of their opponent tonight. Trento needed just two sets, but once they were in the bag, they did not put their foot off the pedal and rushed towards their fourth 3-0 win of the season and the 200th in their gym out of the 292 played. Once again Matey Kaziyski was the main man, especially when Novi Sad was coming back to put pressure on Trento in the first two sets. He scored 5 aces for a total of 17 points, while Nemec went one better with 18 and 62% in attack. Trento will take on Maccabi Tel Aviv in the next round, the first leg will be in Italy between the 2nd and 4th of December, while the return leg will be in Israel between the 16th and 18th of December.

Radostin Stoytchev (coach Energy T.I. Diatec Trentino): “The result is always the most important aspect. We are satisfied to have had the better of a team like Novi sad, who proved tonight again they had a great fighting spirit. In the first set, we found it very hard to stop their attacks at the net. We got ourselves in a bit of trouble but Kaziyski took care of business with his serve to sort out part of our problems. In the second set, we let them back in losing a bit our focus after a good start but we did well to keep it tight and not give anything away. But I’d rather see us control the game better like in the third set”.
