TONAZZO PADOVA – SIR SAFETY PERUGIA 0-3 (21-25, 23-25, 20-25)

TONAZZO PADOVA: Mattei 10, Orduna 1, Giannotti 21, Balaso (L), Gozzo 4, Volpato 5, Garghella, Aguillard, Milan, Quiroga 3. DNP Vianello, Rosso, Beccaro. Coach. Baldovin.

SIR SAFETY PERUGIA: Buti 2, Fromm 2, De Cecco 5, Barone 7, Beretta 4, Vujevic 6, Atanasijevic 16, Fanuli (L), Sunder 10, Maruotti. DNP Paolucci, Giovi, Tzioumakas. Coach. Grbic.

Before the start, Padova showed its solidarity towards Ghoncheh Ghavami. The young British women with Iranian origin was condemned to a year in prison for trying to go to the World League game between Iran and Italy last June.

As for the game, Perugia won it in straight set, coming back from an 8-2 deficit at the start of the second set. The third was tied on a Giannotti block on Atanasijevic (18-18) but Perugia was solid again in the clutch time.

Valerio Baldovin (coach Tonazzo Padova): “We’re a bit disappointed not to have won at least a set, because the boys did great things today. There are still some typical mistakes of youngsters. We have to look on the bright side though, because we are on the right track”.

Nikola Grbic (coach Sir Safety Perugia): “Games like these are always very difficult, because we knew Padova would play mentally free of any pressure and be able to make it hard for us. The important thing was to remain solid, and the result proves we were totally in it which is a good sign for the coming games”.

CMC RAVENNA – CUCINE LUBE BANCA MARCHE TREIA 0-3 (16-25, 23-25, 15-25)

CMC RAVENNA: Mengozzi 4, Cavanna, Zappoli 1, Toniutti, Jeliazkov 4, Koumentakis 5, Goi (L), Zanatta Buiatti 15, Cester 2, Bari (L), Cebulj 6. DNP Ricci, Gabriele. Coach. Kantor.

CUCINE LUBE BANCA MARCHE TREIA: Fei 13, Henno (L), Paparoni, Stankovic 5, Kovar 11, Sabbi 11, Shumov, Kurek 14, Baranowicz 2. DNP Parodi, Monopoli, Bonacic, Podrascanin. Coach. Giuliani.

Kantor’s team was defeated 3-0 and lost its first place. But the difference between the two teams was known. Without Podrascanin, coach Giuliani lined-up Fei, named MVP at the end of a splendid performance both on the serve and in reception. Ravenna had a chance to turn things around in the second set at 23 all, but Baranowicz and Sabbi made sure it would not happen.

Waldo Kantor (coach CMC Ravenna): “We were not dreaming before this game, and this is not a wake-up call. I congratulate Treia who played to near-perfection. We managed to stay close in the second set but shame we did not play with the right attitude during the whole game”.

Alberto Giuliani (coach Cucine Lube Banca Marche Treia): “We did a good job of making it hard for Cebulj and Koumentakis with our floater. The whole team proved it was in great shape and ready for the Champions League”.

REVIVRE MILANO – MODENA VOLLEY 0-3 (20-25, 17-25, 15-25)

REVIVRE MILANO: Bencz 6, Bermudez 1, Horstink 6, Kauliakamoa Jr, Patriarca 4, Rizzo (L), Mattera 1, De Togni 7, Dos Santos, Veres 8, Valsecchi. DNP Cerbo, Temponi Araujo, Preti. Coach. Maranesi.

MODENA VOLLEY: Mossa De Rezende 5, Petric 16, Rossini (L), Ngapeth, Piano 5, Verhees 11, Kovacevic 12, Vettori 11. DNP Sala, Boninfante, Casadei, Donadio. Coach. Lorenzetti.

Modena’s triumphant run continues with a fourth win running in Milan. Milan’s new signing Peter Veres had a good debut game but the gap between the two teams was too big. The new sole leader had its main men in Petric (16 points), Verhees (11 points, 4 blocks) and Bruninho who distributed the game brilliantly. Striking stat: 61 to 37% in attack for Modena.

Mvp: Pieter Verhees (Modena Volley)

Peter Veres (Revivre Milano): “I want to thank the fans who really tried to give us a hand. We’re sorry with the result though I am personally happy to be back in Italy after so many years. Modena made the difference with its block and dig. We have to find each other better on court and be courageous. It’s impossible to win otherwise”.

Pieter Verhees (Modena Volley): “We played in a great atmosphere. Having won four in as many games is very positive. Our goal is to qualify for the Italian Cup and it’s important to collect points in order then to see how far we can go. Veres needs time to settle in with Milan, but they have the potential to get better, all the teams will have to be careful”.

EXPRIVIA NELDIRITTO MOLFETTA – TOP VOLLEY LATINA 2-3 (8-25, 28-26, 25-23, 21-25, 8-15) – EXPRIVIA NELDIRITTO MOLFETTA: Candellaro 9, Noda Blanco 8, Sket 10, Del Vecchio 1, Spirito, Romiti (L), Kooistra 18, Puliti 1, Bossi 1, Blagojevic 4, Hierrezuelo 4, Porcelli (L), Piscopo 18. Coach. Di Pinto.

TOP VOLLEY LATINA: Manià (L), Rauwerdink 13, Sottile 3, Skrimov 1, Tailli, Van De Voorde 15, Rossi 6, Starovic 16, Urnaut 26. DNP Ferenciac, Pellegrino, Semenzato. Coach. Blengini.

In a packed PalaPoli arena, the hosts lost the first set because of a lack of focus. A new game started from the second set with Piscopo shining. At 1-1, the fight continued with long rallies and great digs. Latina managed to get back from a big deficit but Molfetta still went ahead 2-1. In the fourth set, Latina kept a three-point advantage all along to push it to the tie-break. There was nothing Molfetta could do in the fifth as Latina had the momentum.

MVP: Marco Piscopo (Exprivia Neldiritto Molfetta).

Marco Piscopo (Exprivia Neldiritto Molfetta): “We had a poor approach to the game: we did not have time to prepare this encounter after the long trip to Trento, but this should not be an excuse. We gave away the first set, then we did a good job to get back in the game. We’re disappointed with this loss but we know we left our heart on the floor to get the win”.

Loris Manià (Top Volley Latina): “We managed to recover from a difficult situation at 2-1 to Molfetta. As a united team, we looked at each other and fought hard to get those two points. We needed to bounce back after the Perugia game and winning this way is testimony of what we’re capable of”.
