Piacenza came back from Sansepolcro with a 3-0 victory over Città di Castello. After a tight first set, it turned into a rather comfortable win for the visitors. Castello had led throughout the first set with a very effective Baroti in attack but at 20-17 a turnaround coincided with a long break because of problems on the scoreboard and Vermiglio’s terrific run of serves. Piacenza kicked start the second set with Le Roux and Zlatanov starring (5-10), they would never be pegged back. The third set was disputed until 12-11, when Piacenza pulled away (14-17). Once again, the Piacenza setter was key to seal it. MVP Vermiglio
Andrea Radici (coach Copra Ardelia Piacenza): “Castello did very well in the first set to keep up with the rhythm and their good reception allowed Corvetta to distribute the ball fine. But we’re going through a good spell, physically and mentally, we’re playing well and we managed to overcome the difficulties of that set and we’re extremely satisfied”.
Paolo Montagnani (coach Altotevere Città di Castello-Sansepolcro): “Until 20-17 of the first set we did very well, then the long break kind of slowed us down and from that point on we never regained that early rhythm. I will talk about that to the boys to understand why we have those ups and downs”.
