TRENTINO DIATEC: Suxho, Ferreira 15, Solé 17, Sokolov 10, Lanza 5, Birarelli 5, Colaci (L); Van Dijk 6, Mazzone, Thei. DNP. Sintini, Burgsthaler. Coach. Roberto Serniotti.
ESPERANCE: Ben Cheikh 1, Karamosli 5, Ben Hassine 2, Kaabi 12, Joini 3, Ben Tara 2, Hmissi (L); Karoui, Sorokoletov 7, Ben Chekir, Ben Slimen. DNP. Garfi. Coach. Foued Kamoun.
Trentino’s run into the World Club Championships is over. A 3-0 victory over the African Champions of Esperance Tunis was not enough to clinch a ticket into the semi-finals. Indeed, the 3-2 victory of UPCN over Al Rayyan three hours before Trento’s encounter made the result of the Italians useless. Trento is therefore out as the teams from Argentina and Qatar move on. An unlucky ending and a fifth place.
Despite the fact they could no more enter the top four, Birarelli and co fully did their job. They were particularly effective at the net with 14 blocks (Solé had 8), and on the serve with 7 aces.
Roberto Serniotti (coach Trentino Diatec): “In spite of the result of the game played before ours, which had got us out of the tournament, we played seriously and did our duty. We won two games out of three, but all this was not enough. We have been penalized by the calendar, and I have seen things I wished I hadn’t, but I think it will be better to talk about this aside. I am satisfied with Solé’s performance at the net. He made a lot of points, going close from a record”.
