Trentino’s sixth participation in the World Club Championships began with a 3-0 defeat against Al Rayan (Qatar). This is only the third loss for the Italians in 26 games played since 2009. The road to Friday’s semi-finals is already partially compromised. Indeed in order to keep its chance alive, Trento will have to win Wednesday’s game against the Argentine team of UPCN at all cost.
Al Rayan was led by top scorer Simon, who registered 68% in attack. Raphael also did an excellent job to find Kaziyski (11 points) and Bozhulev (18).
Roberto Serniotti (coach Trentino Diatec): “We played well for long spells but that was not enough to win because A Rayyan possesses top players who can make the difference any time, even without having trained much all together. We’re disappointed we did not manage to take at least one set, this could have changed things. We have been too tense in the clutch moments and we’ve been punished but we can still qualify for the semi-finals”.
