CALZEDONIA VERONA – CUCINE LUBE BANCA MARCHE MACERATA 0-3 (18-25, 18-25, 13-25) CALZEDONIA VERONA: Zingel 3, Blasi, Pesaresi (L), Ter Horst 11, Coali, Gasparini 7, White 4, Boninfante 1, Bellei 4, Kovacevic 3, Anzani 2. DNP Centomo, Gonzalez. Coach. Giani.

Verona could not make the court advantage count in the playoffs quarter-final game 2 and was knocked out of the title race by Macerata. Zaytsev finished top scorer with 17 points (2 aces, 78% in attack) and was named MVP. Boninfante and co will now play for a place in the Challenge Cup 2014-15 by taking part in the playoffs for fifth place, starting on April 6 with the quarter-final series against Ravenna.

Dante Boninfante (Calzedonia Verona): “Unlike in game 1, nothing really worked. We all made things easier for them, starting with our serve. I am not satisfied at all. Macerata is a very strong team, you cannot afford to give them easy points like that. We played a poor game, there’s not much else to say. We have not been as aggressive as in Game 1”.

Dragan Stankovic (Cucine Lube Banca Marche Macerata): “We played much better than in game 1, we can only be satisfied. We got off to a good start, then in the second set it was tight at the start but once again we managed to escape and build an important lead. We have improved our attitude. Now we’ll have a good week of rest before the next game”.

ALTOTEVERE CITTÀ DI CASTELLO – COPRA ELIOR PIACENZA 0-3 (20-25, 22-25, 21-25) – ALTOTEVERE CITTÀ DI CASTELLO: Franceschini, Fromm 17, Carminati, Corvetta 2, Dolfo, Massari 12, Tosi (L), Piano 5, Van Walle 5, Rossi 2. DNP Lensi, Lo Bianco, Marchiani. Coach. Radici.

COPRA ELIOR PIACENZA: Marra (L), Le Roux, Papi 10, Fei 5, Kaliberda 10, Simon 13, Tencati, Vettori 22, De Cecco 2. DNP Partenio, Smerilli, Zlatanov, Husaj. Coach. Monti.

Città di Castello’s run in the playoffs is over as Piacenza was determined to seal the series in two games. MVP: Luciano De Cecco.

Denys Kaliberda (Copra Elior Piacenza): “We have done an excellent job tonight. If we’d had a  bad start we’d probably have lost this game, but our served worked just fine, in the first set thanks to Vettori, in the second thanks to Simon. Now we’ll prepare the semi-finals, it will be very difficult against Perugia, but we know we have the quality to do well”.

Jacopo Massari (Altotevere Città di Castello): “This was certainly a positive season, first of all because we reached the playoffs, and then because in both encounters we played face to face with what I believe is the best team of this league”.

CASA MODENA – DIATEC TRENTINO 3-1 (25-18, 25-20, 21-25, 27-25)

CASA MODENA: Manià (L), Sala 5, Sket 4, Deroo 8, Kampa, Bartman 15, Beretta 9, Mossa De Rezende 2, Kovacevic 6, Ngapeth 16. DNP Donadio, Bossi, Hendriks. Coach. Lorenzetti.

DIATEC TRENTINO: Sintini 2, Birarelli 4, Solé 14, Ferreira 5, Suxho 1, De Paola, Lanza 10, Sokolov 22, Colaci (L), Fedrizzi 8. DNP Thei, Burgsthaler, Van Dijk. Coach. Serniotti.

Modena qualified to the playoffs semi-finals as it completed a double over Trentino. 3-1 the score in a superb encounter, in which the first two sets were dominated by the hosts before Sintini and Fedrizzi came on to get Trento back in it. Then, Modena made the breakthrough in the fourth by coming back from 24-20 down to clinch it as 4500 spectators celebrated. MVP: Uros Kovacevic

Angelo Lorenzetti (coach Casa Modena): “We are thrilled. We really wanted to get into the semi-finals, Modena deserves it. We have re-established the empathy we had with the supporters last year. It was lacking earlier this season because of our own fault. We had a bit of luck today, especially at the end of the fourth set: that will make up for the bad luck we had last season in the quarters against Cuneo. Macerata? It’s a brilliant squad, but we’ll all try our best. We really enjoyed ourselves in the gym tonight, it would be nice to play at least two more games here”.

Roberto Serniotti (coach Diatec Trentino): “After a good start we lost our way, we did not have free minds and that came from the lack of confidence accumulated in recent months with all the problems we had to go through. We should have led 1-0 in both game 1 and game 2. Now we have to keep working with maximum effort for the playoffs for fifth place.

BRE LANNUTTI CUNEO – SIR SAFETY PERUGIA 1-3 (20-25, 25-17, 20-25, 21-25)

BRE LANNUTTI CUNEO: Rauwerdink, Antonov 12, Marchisio (L), Gonzalez 4, De Pandis (L), Casadei 16, Kohut 3, Alletti 5, De Togni 6, Rouzier, Maruotti 15. DNP Coscione. Coach. Piazza.

SIR SAFETY PERUGIA: Buti 13, Paolucci, Petric 14, Della Corte, Giovi (L), Cupkovic 19, Mitic 4, Vujevic 7, Atanasijevic 5, Semenzato 7. DNP Barone, Della Lunga, Fanuli. Coach. Kovac.

Perugia won in Cuneo and qualified for the playoffs semi-finals. Cuneo will now take part in the playoffs for fifth place. MVP: Simone Buti.

Dore Della Lunga (Sir Safety Perugia): “We are very happy with the result. It was a strange game, we had a few physical worries and we had to play with an unprecedented line-up. We did a good job of winning this game. I’m sorry we knocked out Cuneo, a club I know well, but I think that the way we’ve played thus far we deserved to go through. Now we’ll be up against Piacenza in the semi-finals, a team we have not managed to beat yet, but we’ll definitely give it our best shot”.

Aimone Alletti (Bre Lannutti Cuneo): “We believed in our chance and tried our best until the end. They got Cupkovic out of the bench and he had a very good game. They were much better than us and deserved to win. We have to focus on the next games against Vibo now”.
