MVP: Aleksan Atanasijevic.

Candido Grande (DS Andreoli Latina): “It is tough to reach the playoffs, we tried our best but we faced two excellent teams on our way: Verona and Perugia. At times, we played face to face, but they had the better of us at the end of sets”.

Goran Vujevic (Sir Safety Perugia): “We knew it was going to be a difficult game in a heated atmosphere. Latina does not deserve to be where it stands in the table. We have been doing well recently, we played fine in the decisive moments of the game. We did not give much away. We’ll aim to keep this third place even if it’s tough, and something we could certainly not have expected at the start of the season”.

Eighth consecutive win at the PalaBanca arena for Piacenza in the league at the expense of a Trento team that has to deal with various injuries. Besides, Sokolov, Szabò and Birarelli, Sintini was forced out because of fever. Piacenza needed as many points as possible to stay in the hunt of Macerata and they did just that. They are now four behind as the leaders needed a tiebreak to get rid of Cuneo. Zlatanov was named MVP, he is just two points away from the 9000 in career.

Luciano De Cecco (Copra Elior Piacenza): “The outcome of the game depended totally and exclusively on us. Fortunately we managed to stay united and play motivated. We trained well and were composed. Now we’ll just train without pressure to prepare for Bologna”.

Emanuele Birarelli (Diatec Trentino): “This is a horrible moment for us, and things got worse in the club. We have so many injuries, and the team is a bit disheartened. On the other hand, the youngsters have shown progress tonight, they’re gaining experience on court. As for the Italian Cup final four, hopefully we’ll have a couple of players back”.

Aidan Zingel (Calzedonia Verona): “We made a lot of mistakes tonight and that influenced the final result. They have been better than us. We have to start over tomorrow in the gym, focusing on the next game against Molfetta. We have to keep working on the positive aspects that emerged tonight”.

Earvin Ngapeth (Casa Modena): “We played well but in the second set we lacked composure. When we lose our focus, we struggle, and you could see that tonight. But then we played with fighting spirit and managed to seal it”.

In the fifth set, the hosts took a quick 6-3 lead thanks to 2 aces from Fromm, then they extended it to 9-5 but Vibo was not done yet. They fought back with Forni and Gavotto (9-8), while Crer would tie it at 12-12 with a block. At 14 all, Fromm gave the hosts a match point that Massari would convert.

MVP: Federico Tosi

Jacopo Massari (Altotevere Città di Castello): “Tough game, in the first two sets they have done extremely well in dig and attack. But then we reacted thanks to the confidence we have gathered from recent games and we managed to comeback from a situation that looked doomed”.

Gianlorenzo Blengini (Coach Tonno Callipo Calabria Vibo Valentia): “We’re having a difficult spell. In the last month and a half we suffered many injuries and we haven’t been able to train with consistency on our schemes. So we played this game with heart and the individual qualities. Unfortunately that was not enough to take the three points”.

BRE LANNUTTI CUNEO – CUCINE LUBE BANCA MARCHE MACERATA 2-3 (25-23, 15-25, 21-25, 25-23, 12-15) – BRE LANNUTTI CUNEO: Rauwerdink, Antonov 13, Marchisio (L), Gonzalez 1, De Pandis (L), Casadei 8, Kohut 8, Alletti 4, De Togni 8, Coscione, Rouzier 6, Maruotti 10. Coach. Piazza.

More than 3.000 fans were there again to support Cuneo against the leaders Macerata. In the end, Macerata eventually snatched it at the tie-break as Ivan Zaytsev was named MVP of the game with 32 points (4 aces). In the fifth set, it’s Cuneo who had taken the early initiatives (5-2), but Macerata worked hard to get back in it bit by bit until the 9-9. From then, the guests took over with Zaytsev on the serve (9-11) and Zaytsev again obtaining the match point at 11-4. Alletti cancelled one but Macerata won it on the next rally.

Oleg Antonov (Bre Lannutti Cuneo): “We all believed we could do it but just like against Piacenza we missed a little something. Shame we had this blackout in the second set. Still we did well to come back from 2-1 down. I think we have to be proud because this game proves we are improving. Not every team can take three points against Trento then 1 against Piacenza and 1 more against Macerata. Even if we could have taken at least one more in this last two games. Now we have to keep working our socks off in training to keep going like that”.

Francesco Cadeddu (Ass. coach Cucine Lube Banca Marche Macerata): “It’s been a difficult game and after seeing their game against Piacenza we knew it would be tough. We had a horrible start in the first set, with 11 mistakes on the serve which were definitely too many. We have played four tie-breaks in a row on the road but this time we won it. Zaytsev was terrific tonight, he had extremely high percentages in attack”.
