The A2 on court on Boxing day
The last round to the halfway point of the regular season in the Serie A2 will take place on December 26. While the names of the teams that qualified for the A2 cup final four are already known (Padova, Monza, Sora and Matera), it remains to be seen what will be the match-ups. The big game of the day will be Padova versus Monza, there will be the first place at stake and it will be live on Rai Sport (6.30pm).
Caffè Aiello Corigliano – Elettrosud Brolo. Both had a complicated first half of season and will look for a win to get them momentum entering the second part of the season. Corigliano had two consecutive away games, the last one lost in Ortona, while Brolo was close to its first win against Castellana Grotte (2-3) but is still at the bottom of the table.
B-Chem Potenza Picena – Sieco Service Ortona. The dream of the cup gone, Potenza and Picena will now focus on going as high as possible in the table. Potenza is on a five-game losing streak, while Ortona took three points against Corigliano in the last round as it stands fifth and hoped till the very end to be in the cup.
Cassa Rurale Cantù – Itely Milano. A derby to end the year, the second for Cantù after the one lost in Monza last weekend. Della Rosa’s boys are one point away from Milan, which gathered back-to-back home wins but still looking for the first triumph on the road.
Materdominivolley.it Castellana Grotte – Coserplast Openet Matera. Splendid come-back win from 2-0 down against Brolo in the last round for Castellana Grotte (second tie-break won). Matera already secured its place in the cup and will now look to improve on its position as Padova, Monza, Sora and Matera are all within two points.
Tonazzo Padova – Vero Volley Monza. First place at stake in the big game of the day. Despite the fact they did not play in the last round, the Padova players stayed top, but tied on points with Monza, who registered its 8th victory of the season at the tie-break against Cantù. Thrilling game and special atmosphere in Padova guaranteed.
