In front of over 3000 supporters, Trento won in Modena. Authoritarian performance from the Italian champions which had a superb Sokolov as their main man.  Bartman and Kovacevic, who had a good first game as starter, were close to turn things around in the second set as the crowd got crazy, but Trento stayed solid.

MVP: Tsvetlan Sokolov

Angelo Lorenzetti (coach Casa Modena): “I can’t ask anything more from my boys in training, they work their socks off every day. Some of our weaknesses were exposed today but I knew we would find it hard against a strong team like Trento”.

Roberto Serniotti (coach Diatec Trentino): “We played really well today, I am proud of what the boys did. This was our best game on the serve. We had a little bit of luck at the end of the second set: if we had lost it, in such a heated atmosphere, things could have gone differently”.

Vibo Valentia gave it a good fight on home soil but had to surrender in straight sets against the league leaders Macerata. MVP Michele Baranowicz.

Luigi Randazzo (Tonno Callipo Calabria Vibo Valentia): «We knew it was going to be a tough game, Macerata played very well for over an hour and a half. We probably could have done a little better, shame, now we only have the disappointment left!”.

Ivan Zaytsev (Cucine Lube Banca Marche Macerata):«We’re happy with this victory. The team was back on court after the break although myself, Kovar and Baranowicz never really stopped playing. These are three important points for us”.

COPRA ELIOR PIACENZA – BRE LANNUTTI CUNEO 3-1 (25-17, 25-13, 21-25, 25-23)

COPRA ELIOR PIACENZA: Marra (L), Le Roux 27, Papi, Fei 11, Kaliberda 14, Simon 12, Zlatanov 11, Tencati, De Cecco 3. DNP Partenio, Smerilli, Husaj, Vettori. Coach. Monti.

Fifth consecutive win for Piacenza, who rolled over Cuneo for 2 sets before conceding the third to the guests. They regained control in the fourth and finished the job as Zlatanov scored 11 on his come-back. However, the man of the match was French outside hitter Le Roux, who registered 27 points.

Luca Monti (coach Copra Elior Piacenza): “I am satisfied with the first two sets, I can sincerely say we played well in those two sets. I am happy as well with the block-dig area which, except for the third set, was excellent. Le Roux played very well, I have to congratulate him for the way he got back in the game in the last set. Our serve was what really troubled Cuneo. A team like them always has to be studied in its every detail, they can always make it tough for you. If I had a word in the matter, I would have elected Marra MVP, he really played excellent volleyball”.

Roberto Piazza (coach Bre Lannutti Cuneo): “I cannot deny we played the first two sets poorly. Some positive came out of the third and fourth but I think that, at this level, we have to be more daring. We managed to trouble Piacenza so when you do that you feel sorry you went close”.

EXPRIVIA MOLFETTA – SIR SAFETY PERUGIA 0-3 (17-25, 21-25, 20-25)

EXPRIVIA MOLFETTA: Piscopo 5, Mazzone 9, Izzo 1, Del Vecchio, Cesarini (L), De Marchi, Sabbi 13, Zanuto 7, Fornés Jul, Casoli 2, Saitta. DNP Porcelli. Coach. Cichello.

SIR SAFETY PERUGIA: Buti 6, Petric 17, Giovi (L), Cupkovic 4, Barone 4, Della Lunga, Mitic, Vujevic 3, Atanasijevic 20. DNP Paolucci, Della Corte, Fanuli, Semenzato. Coach. Kovac.

A disappointing evening for Molfetta, which was severely defeated by Perugia. Atanasijevic was the man with the killer touch, he led the team with 20 points. This was Molfetta’s first defeat in its PalaPoli arena.

Daniele Mazzone (Exprivia Molfetta ): “We struggled in reception so they deserve credit for the way they served. When the reception is poor, then it’s difficult to handle the ball and the attack of the team. We also lacked patience in the counter attack, we made mistakes in our fundamentals”.

Slobodan Kovac (Coach Sir Safety Perugia): “In my opinion we did not get much in Piacenza. And indeed, in the game against Cuneo we gave our best and managed to win it. In a tough court like tonight’s, we played really well, limited their main guys Sabbi and Zanuto who usually make the difference in this gym. I think our serve really made things difficult for them, we played good overall volleyball too”.

ALTOTEVERE CITTÀ DI CASTELLO – CMC RAVENNA 3-2 (25-23, 25-23,23-25,23-25,20-18) – ALTOTEVERE CITTÀ DI CASTELLO: Franceschini, Fromm 20, Carminati 3, Lensi (L), Corvetta 2, Dolfo 12, Sartoretti 1, Massari, Tosi (L), Piano 16, Van Walle 24, Rossi 8, Marchiani. Coach. Radici.

CMC RAVENNA: Mengozzi, Kauliakamoa Jr, Cricca 6, Toniutti 1, Tillie 17, Jeliazkov, Patriarca, Klapwijk 22, Cester 6, Bari (L), Cebulj 30. DNP Koumentakis, Scarpi. Coach. Bonitta.

Great battle at the PalaKemon arena with the hosts winning it at the tie-break against Ravenna, which had managed to come-back from 2 sets down before surrendering in the fifth. Ravenna even had the first match point at 14-15 before Dolfo tied it. It went to 18 all until Van Walle and Piano’s amazing 10th block gave the host the victory.  MVP Antonio Corvetta.

Ludovico Dolfo (Altotevere Città’ di Castello): “Happy with the result, but disappointed we lost the third set that way, which then influenced the way the fourth went. Luckily we recovered in the tie-break and managed to take two crucial points”.

Stefano Mengozzi (CMC Ravenna): “We started off a little tense, they seemed to be more loose than us. We had a good reaction in the third and fourth, but I have to say that in the clutch times of the game, they played better than us”.
