Another convincing performance for Trentino after last Sunday against Ravenna. This time the Italians defeated the Swiss of Lugano to stay perfect in the Champions League. Just over an hour was enough to add to their opening win over Berlin and go top of the group with a three-point advantage on Berlin. The blocks were key again: 12. Solé had 3 and was named MVP.

Roberto Serinotti (coach Trentino Diatec): “I am extremely satisfied with the result and the performance. I had asked the team to play focused and that’s what they did. We put our foot off the pedal in the third and were closed to be punished, but we reacted quickly and did well to get this important result. We made the most of the two home games early, now we can face the coming fixtures without pressure”.

POSOJILNICA AICH/DOB – CUCINE LUBE BANCA MARCHE MACERATA 0-3 (20-25, 19-25, 17-25) – POSOJILNICA AICH/DOB: Sequeira 16, Kosl, Binder, Kovačič (L), Wohlfahrtstätter 4, Wawrzynczyk 8, Satler 1, Grut 6, Pusnik 0, Koncilja 2, DNP: Hruska, Reiser. Coach. Verstappen.

CUCINE LUBE BANCA MARCHE MACERATA: Henno (L), Parodi, Zaytsev 12, Stankovic 5, Kovar 12, Monopoli, Kurek 11, Baranowicz, Podrascanin 8. DNP: De Moraes Lampariello, Patriarca, Giombini. Coach. Giuliani.

Mission accomplished for Macerata, which swept the Asutrians of Aich/Dob away from home in the second round of the Champions League Main Phase. The Italians go top of the group as Kazan had the better of Novosibrisk in the Russian derby.

Alberto Giuliani (coach Cucine Lube Banca Marche Macerata): “We got what we wanted, the victory without leaving a set. What I really liked about my team tonight is how solid they were mentally. They approached the game and each set perfectly. In the first set, the tightest, we eventually came out on top at the end, but then we took charge in the following two sets. In Europe, it’s not easy against anyone, but tonight the team accomplished its mission despite the pressure to have to win 3-0. I repeat it, our group is extremely tough, each set can make the difference in the final outcome. This is a really important result”.

TOURS VB – COPRA ELIOR PIACENZA 3-2 (25-19, 27-29, 25-13, 22-25, 15-10)

TOURS VB: Klinkenberg 2, Hardy-Dessources 12, Falafala 1, Konecny 20, Exiga (L), Araujo Pinheiro 3, Collin, Jablonsky 16, Dillies, Baránek 19, Smith 8. DNP: Hoag. Coach. Motta Paes.

COPRA ELIOR PIACENZA: Marra (L), Papi 1, Fei 10, Kaliberda 17, Simon Aties 11, Zlatanov 21, Tencati, Vettori 11, De Cecco 5, DNP: Le Roux, Partenio, Husaj. Coach. Monti.

Piacenza’s first trip in the Champions League ended in tie-break disappointment in Tours, France. While Piacenza was struggling to find consistency and had problems in reception, Tours seemed to play one set with one team and the next with another. 8 aces for the French. Konecny finished top scorer with 21 points, just like Piacenza’s Zlatanov.

Luca Monti (Coach Copra Elior Piacenza): “I take all the responsibilities of this defeat, we gave a set away because of my mistake in making the line-up. The boys di a great job, but the third set proved very important. This 3-2 loss does not send us out of it. Taking a point there is still important, but it’s obvious I am a bit disappointed for the inexcusable mistake I made”.
