World Club Championships 2013
Trento’s winning streak in the World Club Championships has come to an end. An unbelievable run of four years and four titles without a loss (21 wins) was stopped by the Argentine side of UPCN (3-2). Still, if Trento wins by any score tomorrow against the Panasonic Panthers, it will get its ticket for the last four of the competition. Huge game for Sokolov (32 points, 4 aces and 4 blocks), while Burgsthaler collected 4 blocks. While Trento’s serve was working, everything was going well but as soon as it was not as sharp, the Argentine middle blockers showed all their effectiveness at the net. Santos Junior and Ramos combined for 35 points.
“We fought right until the end – said coach Serniotti – We proved for long spells we could handle things against one of the top teams of the tournament but we missed that little something in the tie-break, especially when we had a few points’ advantage. We lost but we keep our chances to qualify for the semi-finals open”.
