Piacenza silenced the 2000 home fans in Perugia, which they defeated for the third time this season making a giant step towards qualification. 3-1 the score again thanks to excellent serving with MVP Holt throwing in 5 aces. Piacenza could seal the series at home in the next encounter.
Nicola Daldello (Sir Safety Perugia): “Overall, it’s been a rather hard-fought game. When we had bad starts to the set, everything became complicated because when Piacenza is ahead in the scoreboard they are extremely difficult to stop. We had an unusual line-up but still gave them a game till the end. We could have won the fourth set and gone to the tie-break but credit to them for getting back in it. We’ll have to face game 3 with the same attitude, hit the serve hard and try to go all out. We will give everything until the end, we don’t want to have any regrets in what has been a great season so far”.
Samuele Papi (Copra Elior Piacenza): “Very important and difficult victory. We knew how well could play Perugia and after the Challenge Cup we were not at our best. But we began the sets well and did a great job of recovering in the fourth set. Let’s focus immediately on the next game. In the playoffs there’s no time to think about the previous game because each one is different. But we hope and want to seal the series to go through to the semi-finals”.

Two hours of great volleyball in a colorful and packed arena in Modena. The game went to the wire, and Cuneo just clinched it thanks to a serve that Modena really struggled to deal with (9 aces and many other half points). The pair Ngapeth-Sokolov shined and combined for 44 points. Modena was 7-4 up in the tie-break but Ngapeth’s run of serve turned things around, a 5-0 that took Cuneo 9-7 ahead. The hosts found the tie at 11 but failed to convert 3 counters. Cuneo did not make mistakes and took it 15-13.
Angelo Lorenzetti (coach Casa Modena): “We went very close to victory against a strong team like Cuneo. We’re disappointed with the fifth set and the counters we should have played better. I had explained our situations and at times you could see it was true. We struggled in reception but against Cuneo’s serve that can happen. Our serve faded as the game went on, and as I said before we struggled with the counters”.
Roberto Piazza (coach Bre Banca Lannutti Cuneo): “If you leave space to Modena in this arena, things can get complicated. They get all excited and you can find yourself quickly trailing. In the third set we made mistakes we should not have made. Our serve in the fourth and fifth set really stood out. But we still lack consistency”.
