Beaten a week ago 3-1, Latina swept the MMP Ankara team and won the consequent golden set to turn things around and qualify for the Cev Cup final. The serves of captain Sottile continuously put havoc in the opponent’s reception. Rossini’s dig was something special too between volleyball and gymnastics, but the MVP was Jaroen Rauwerdink who led the way with his incredible competitive spirit.
Silvano Prandi (allenatore Andreoli Latina): “I know that Sunday’s loss influenced this reaction from the team. Defeats can hurt badly when you expect a certain result, but today mattered more than Sunday. Now we’ll go back to Ankara”.

Piacenza got off to a difficult start in the first set but eventually defeated Minsk with an 8th consecutive 3-0 victory. The Italians are through to the semi-finals in which it will meet the Czechs of Dukla Liberec, which got rid of Maccabi Tel Aviv. Piacenza had 59% in attack versus the 42% for the Byelorussians and won the reception battle 61% to 43%.
Luca Monti (coach Copra Elior Piacenza): “Just like in Castellana we made the most of the Fei – De Cecco pair. It’s a formula that works fine. Vettori continues to get better and better, it would not be fair to leave him on the bench, we need to find a way to use him. These games always look easy on the eve of the game but then always turn out to be more complicated. Everything went well when we controlled the net and serve, which we did not do in the first set. I want to dedicate this game to Marco, a dear friend who passed away yesterday”.
