The first round of the playoffs 6 derby between Macerata and Cuneo went to the Italian champions, who were pushed by an amazing crowd. In order to go to Omsk’s Final Four, Cuneo will now need to win both the return leg as well as the golden set. After three months out, Cristian Savani was back on the bench. Macerata dominated at the net (11 blocks vs 4) as the game was tight only in the third set.
Alberto Giuliani (coach Lube Banca Marche Macerata): “The game went well, we played good volleyball, but as I often tell my guys, we did not play at an amazing level either. We have a few things to improve before the league game against Trento and then the return leg against Cuneo. This result only means we earned a little parachute: the golden set. But in Cuneo it will be a whole new game, we need to have this clear in mind, we still have to earn the qualification. Please let me say a word on the crowd, the fans were just unbelievable, they just never stopped to encourage us”.
