The Italian champions are looking at their Champions League debut following their league win over Piacenza. The first one will be on the road on Wednesday against Asse-Lennik, from Belgium. This will be Macerata’s seventh participation in the competition. On their debut in 2001-2002, the team had won the trophy at the expense of Olimpiacos as it was coached by Roberto Masciarelli. Macerata made it to the Final Four two more times, in 2007 and 2009.

“Playing the Champions League with an Italian team is always more difficult than any other team because they all give their best to get a result against the Italians – explained French libero Henno – There are no particular secret to do well in the Champions League. First of all you need a little luck in the draws, and then maximum focus in every single game”.
