The Italian Cup Final Four A2 in Andria began with an extremely tight first semi-final which went to Segrate in the tie-break at the expense of Molfetta, which had come back from 2-0 down to 2-2.
Massimo Eccheli (coach Crazy Diamond Segrate): “The final was our target and we did it by beating Molfetta for the first time this season. We got off to a brilliant start and played two excellent first sets. Then, our usual problems of concentration hurt us again. In the tie-break, we played well again, we believed we could do it and we won it”.
Massimiliano Russo (Crazy Diamond Segrate): “We had a few games like this one lately in the league. We make mistakes and can’t seem to find a way out to focus on the next play. We faded again in the third and fourth today and we let Molfetta back in it. They did well to believe in their chance and take advantage of our mistakes. But we never stopped fighting, we believed in it until the end and this final is something important for us and the club”.
Giuseppe Lorizio (coach Pallavolo Molfetta): “We lost this semi-final on details. We might have deserved it more given the comeback we achieved from 2 sets down. I’m sorry for the boys, they played well and believed in it until the last play. We were already happy to be here in this Final Four, but we wanted to win it and being so close to it and missing out is disappointing”.
Emiliano Giglioli (Pallavolo Molfetta): “The only disappointment is that we gave away the first two sets. We did a good job of getting back in the game. It’s a shame in the end, a couple of plays decided the outcome. We’re defeated but we get out heads high. We have worked extremely hard in the gym to play this big game against Segrate, but they showed all their worth. Now we’ll focus on the league, and try to take as many points as possible to be as close to the top as we can at the end of the regular season”.
