2011 ends with a clear 3-0 victory for Trento over Verona, a significant victory given that Verona had won in Trento in March, which had put an end to the champion’s winning streak.

Tsvetan Sokolov (Itas Diatec Trentino): “I couldn’t wait to play and I’m glad it showed on court. Sealing it in three sets was the best that could happen, we kept control of things all the way through. I am satisfied with the way we served, we did not think too much, we just hit it and it went well”.

Robert Kromm (Marmi Lanza Verona): “It was very difficult for us today. Trento served extremely well and were ahead from start to finish. It was really complicated to turn things around. 2011 remains a good year for us, with a positive first half of season taking points against many teams that have the same targets as ours”.

LUBE BANCA MARCHE MACERATA – SISLEY BELLUNO 3-0 (25-20, 25-22, 25-21)

LUBE BANCA MARCHE MACERATA: Lampariello, Savani 11, Exiga (L), Parodi 12, Stankovic 7, Travica 1, Omrcen 15, Podrascanin 9. DNP Pajenk, Kovar, Monopoli, Van Walle. Coach. Giuliani.

SISLEY BELLUNO: Abdelaziz, Fei 17, Horstink 7, Dolfo 1, Farina (L), Kohut 6, De Togni 6, Suxho 2, Antonov 1, Ogurcak 1. DNP Szabò, Curti, Sorato. Coach. Piazza.

Macerata can celebrate this end of year with a glass of champagne as it swept Belluno in front of yet another sold out crowd. Thanks to this 14 wins in 16 games under Giuliani, Macerata consolidates in second place in the league table.

Alberto Giuliani (coach Lube Banca Marche Macerata): “I liked the personality with which the team played, and we played especially well in the block-dig combination. On the other hand, our intensity was not good, we’ll have to work on that in the next training sessions. I’d like to underline again the fact that the team managed to obtain yet another good result despite the lack of training all together. Overall 2011 has been positive, 14 wins in 16 is an excellent result, but we could have done even better. Now our target is to go and win in Verona in the next league game, to end the first half of season on a high”.

Roberto Piazza (coach Sisley Belluno): “We probably paid the price for the battle played against Trento. That said, with the attitude we had today we can certainly not make any excuses. The team that played tonight is nowhere near the one I’d have in mind”.

COPRA ELIOR PIACENZA – BRE BANCA LANNUTTI CUNEO 1-3 (25-21, 15-25, 23-25, 17-25)

COPRA ELIOR PIACENZA: Marra (L), Kral, Sidibé 7, Zhekov 1, Nikolov 16, Massari 7, Kampa 3, Zlatanov 13, Holt 7, Tencati 7, Penchev. DNP Marretta. Coach. Lorenzetti.

Piacenza played without fear against the third team of the league, it kept its foot on the pedal with talented youngster Massari called upon to substitute Papi. Piacenza even took the first set, but Macerata eventually came out on top with a superb performance at the net and a fantastic Grbic, as always. MVP: Vissotto.

Luca Tencati (Copra Elior Piacenza): “This was not an easy game, we knew it wouldn’t be. We wanted to do well, but our level was not enough to get something out of it. We tried to take the third set but couldn’t make it. Hopefully, we’ll have Papi back for the next game”.

Francesco Fortunato (Bre Banca Lannutti Cuneo): “We knew we were facing a tough game, we expected Piacenza to be up for it as it was in the first set. They hit the serve hard, and we made mistakes in the first set, and after that too. Luckily though, we found our rhythm, which enabled us to get back in the game and win it”.

This 2011, which will remain in the history of the club, could certainly not have ended without a victory. Ravenna defeated Latina 3-1 and kept its chances to stay up alive.

Luca Casadio (President CMC Ravenna): “We knew the Vibo Valentia game was just an accident and that the team was ready to roar, like it had proved in previous occasions. This victory is a testimony and I’m glad it happened in this sold out arena. I take the opportunity to thank our supporters. Now the league table looks better, we want to keep fighting”.

Jakub Jarosz (Andreoli Latina): “I think I did my part but I would have preferred to win. Unfortunately, after the World Cup break we have not managed to perform as well as before it. Today, we did not manage to find consistency, we played well only in flashes”.

CASA MODENA – TONNO CALLIPO VIBO VALENTIA 3-0 (25-21, 30-28, 27-25)

CASA MODENA: Manià (L), Sala 12, Dennis 17, Carletti, Kooy 1, Bellei, Esko 1, Martino 14, Casoli, Anderson 12, Piscopo 3. DNP Catellani. Coach. Bagnoli.

In front of 3200 fans, Modena took three points at the expense of Vibo Valentia in what has been a tight and intense last encounter of the year. Modena is 3 points away from the third place and Cuneo, the next opponent on January 5.

Giampaolo Medei (ass. coach Casa Modena): “We played a good game against an opponent that showed all its worth. I think we improved compared to the game in Verona and that is pretty reassuring. It’s been an excellent team performance, now we have to work hard to keep getting better”.

Gianlorenzo Blengini (coach Tonno Callipo Vibo Valentia): “Shame we made a few costly mistakes at the end of the second and third set. Coscione’s injury definitely did not help. Still, we played a good game, I think Martino was key in the second and third set”.

FIDIA PADOVA – ENERGY RESOURCES SAN GIUSTINO 1-3 (29-27, 21-25, 20-25, 20-25)

FIDIA PADOVA: Garghella (L), Schwarz 13, Gonzalez 2, Tiberti 2, Cricca, Koshikawa, Rosso 9, De Marchi 4, Simeonov 20, Semenzato 8, Suljagic 3. DNP Giannotti. Coach. Montagnani.

ENERGY RESOURCES SAN GIUSTINO: Creus Larry 19, Rauwerdink 15, Patak 16, Mc Kibbin 1, Cozzi, Finazzi 9, Petkovic, Tholse 1, Giovi (L), Sammelvuo, Urnaut 20. DNP Lo Bianco. Coach. De Giorgi.

Larry Creus was the main man of a game that San Giustino won in Padova.

Paolo Montagnani (coach Fidia Padova): “We had started off brightly, motivated. Then we had a few lapses which made it difficult for us. San Giustino did very well on the serve and played simple but effective volleyball. I tried various solutions, but today it was a tricky game. Now we’re facing two very complicated games on the road in Roma and Piacenza, but we have to try to get maximum points on each occasion”.

Ferdinando De Giorgi (coach Energy Resources San Giustino): “Today’s encounter confirms they are no weak teams in this league. All the ones that fight not to go down always play good games. We did a good job of taking control of things after a rather difficult start. We expected Padova to fight for it but the boys obtained a great victory”.

ACQUA PARADISO MONZA BRIANZA – M. ROMA VOLLEY 3-2 (25-27, 25-22, 21-25, 25-22, 17-15) ACQUA PARADISO MONZA BRIANZA: Rossini (L), Conte 16, Nikic 10, Forni 1, Buti 15, Rooney 1, De Cecco 6, Gavotto 24, Shumov 8, Roumeliotis. Non entrati Ciabattini, Molteni, Kaszap. Coach. Zanini.

M. ROMA VOLLEY: Lebl 11, Passier 10, Paparoni (L), Maruotti 12, Zaytsev 16, Boninfante 3, Bencz 1, Sabbi 30. Non entrati Paolucci, Antonucci, Puliti, Corsano, Cisolla. Coach. Giani

Another tie-break win for Monza against Roma (17-15). Thanks to this result, Monza leapfrogs Roma in the table. MVP: Giulio Sabbi

Milos Nikic (Acqua Paradiso Monza Brianza): “We knew we’d have to work hard to get a good result and it’s been indeed tight right until the end. These are two crucial points for us. I am not hundred percent satisfied, though, I think we could have won it without going to the tie-break, but that’ll do anyway”.

Giulio Sabbi (M. Roma Volley): “We expected a difficult game because we were tied on points and both fighting to get a place into the Italian Cup. We knew our opponent would have fought for it until the end and so it was. We tried to clinch it, but unfortunately in the end we came up short. We’re disappointed because we had prepared the game well and expected to get something more out of it. Let’s focus on the next game now”.
