It’s third time lucky for Trentino which brings home the cup it was still missing in its trophy cabinet by beating Cuneo 3-1 in the Super Cup. The four thousand sold out crowd created a superb atmosphere as top volleyball was back in Cagliari. This was a remake of last year’s Super Cup but this time it was Kaziyski and co who lifted the trophy aloft and celebrated as Jan Stokr was elected MVP of the event.
Jan Stokr (MVP, Itas Diatec Trentino): “Very happy, it was not easy to win this game. We were physically and mentally ready to face a strong team like Cuneo. We got off to a strong start in the first two sets. We faded in the third but managed to escape in the fourth, that was maybe the moment I struggled the most but in the end we could celebrate our victory. In such a busy period, in which we play one game after another, it is the result that matters”.
Andrea Bari (Itas Diatec Trentino): “We might have made a few too many mistakes but in the end we obtained a great victory, we really wanted it. We always work hard in the gym to play this kind of games and this triumphs rewards all the efforts made until now from everyone. This is the victory of a group”.
Emanuele Birarelli (Itas Diatec Trentino): “We’re taking home the trophy that the club was missing, we’re all proud of what we’ve done so far”.
Leandro Vissotto (Bre Banca Lannutti Cuneo): “They are very strong. We tried everything we could to contain their serve and play at their level. We took advantage when they took their foot off the pedal in the third but in the fourth they stepped up again, playing with the intensity of the first two sets. We have to improve our rhythm as a team to be able to compete against a team of this level”.
Luigi Mastrangelo (Bre Banca Lannutti Cuneo): “We are logically disappointed. Our goal has to be able to reach the level they are playing at”.
Flavio Gulinelli (coach Bre Banca Lannutti Cuneo): “The quality and consistency of Trentino is top class. That’s the level you have to play at to have a chance and tonight we have lacked a bit of consistency in attack, although we did well on the serve and at the net. We need a bit more consistency but overall we played face to face with them”.
