MARMI LANZA VERONA – FIDIA PADOVA 3-2 (25-16, 22-25, 22-25, 25-21, 15-6)

MARMI LANZA VERONA: Popp 6, Ter Horst, Calderan, Meoni 5, Smerilli (L), Patriarca 7, Zingel 6, Casarin, Kromm 22, Postiglioni, Gasparini 37. DNP Kosmina. Coach. Bagnoli.

FIDIA PADOVA: Garghella (L), Schwarz 2, Gonzalez 6, Cricca 4, Koshikawa, Rosso 10, De Marchi 7, Simeonov 27, Semenzato 7, Suljagic 1. DNP Tiberti, Giannotti, Zingaro. Coach. Montagnani.

2500 fans celebrated Verona’s breakthrough as Gasparini and co found the resources to recover from a 2-1 deficit to dominate the tie-break 15-6. Gasparini was the MVP of the game.

Mitja Gasparini (Marmi Lanza Verona): “I am extremely happy with my performance, I really want to do well and get people to appreciate me here, that was nice to be able to do that today. We pulled together when we were in trouble, we fought on each point, we really wanted to bounce back after the Latina loss”.

Paolo Montagnani (coach Fidia Padova): “Today, Gasparini was clutch on the serve and that’s why we had trouble. If he had not had such a great performance, things would have probably gone differently. Still we take an important point and now we’ll focus on the tough game against Modena. The spikers ? Schwarz started off well, then he faded both in attack and defence, which is why I opted for De Marchi, who did well”.

CMC RAVENNA – ACQUA PARADISO MONZA BRIANZA 1-3 (21-25, 29-27, 19-25, 19-25)

CMC RAVENNA: Mengozzi 3, Leonardi 2, Bendandi, Corvetta 1, Sirri 6, Tabanelli (L), Quiroga 15, Moro 10, Brunner 10, Gruszka 12, Roberts 10. DNP Verhanneman, Gallosti. Coach. Babini.

ACQUA PARADISO MONZA BRIANZA: Ciabattini (L), Rossini (L), Zhukouski, Nikic 13, Forni 11, Molteni, Buti 6, Rooney 22, De Cecco 3, Gavotto 6, Roumeliotis 12. DNP Aleksiev, Shumov. Coach. Zanini.

Monza offered an authoritarian performance in Ravenna and got back with three points. Monza only found it hard in the second when Mengozzi scored two consecutive points and converted the fifth set ball Ravenna had. De Cecco stood out, serving very well Rooney and Roumeliotis.

Antonio Babini (coach CMC Ravenna): “Monza was better than us, especially at the net but also in attack where Rooney and Roumeliotis were excellent. Monza benefitted a lot from its combination of block-dig which allowed Rooney to attack balls that our players could not block. But the attitude of my players was good, from the one that came off the bench too”.

Emanuele Zanini (coach Acqua Paradiso Monza Brianza): “We are happy with the victory and with the progress that we’ve made compared to our first encounters. We only have to improve on our consistency, because we had some lapses again today”.

SISLEY BELLUNO – ENERGY RESOURCES SAN GIUSTINO 3-0 (25-21, 25-22, 26-24)

SISLEY BELLUNO: Abdelaziz, Szabò, Fei 10, Horstink 18, Dolfo, Farina (L), Kohut 6, De Togni 4, Suxho 3, Ogurcak 8. DNP Curti, Antonov, Sorato. Coach. Piazza.

ENERGY RESOURCES SAN GIUSTINO: Creus Larry 5, Rauwerdink 4, Mc Kibbin 2, Cozzi 8, Bartoletti, Conte 12, Petkovic, Giovi (L), Urnaut 16. DNP Finazzi, Tholse, Lo Bianco. Coach. De Giorgi.

Farina was back for Belluno against San Giustino in the fourth round and, in the first two sets, the group looked a whole different team from the one that could not get a win in the first games. Indeed, Belluno was clinical in the clutch time as Horstink was MVP with 18 points and 73% in attack.

Roberto Piazza (coach Sisley Belluno): “This was a great game and my players actuated with determination, showing all its anger after three losses. There had already been some good things in the last two encounters and the improvements were confirmed tonight. The comeback of Farina contributed to give balance and composure to the team”.

Paolo Cozzi (Energy Resources San Giustino): “We did not play well, especially in the first two sets, in which Belluno played better at the end of sets. Then, in the third, we got better and with a little more fight we could have taken it, but there again we made too many mistakes when it mattered most”.

CASA MODENA – COPRA ELIOR PIACENZA 3-0 (25-20, 25-13, 25-18)

CASA MODENA: Manià (L), Sala 4, Dennis 11, Kooy 19, Yosifov 9, Esko 3, Martino, Casoli, Anderson 12. DNP Catellani, Diachkov, Nemec, Carletti. Coach. Bagnoli.

COPRA ELIOR PIACENZA: Ammerman 1, Marra (L), Kral 2, Sidibé 3, Papi 7, Zhekov, Nikolov 15, Tencati 4, Marretta 3, Penchev 1. DNP Massari, Zlatanov. Coach. Lorenzetti.

Modena kept a hundred percent record with a fourth win in as many games. While Piacenza had to make do with the loss of Holt and Zlatanov, Modena offered another top performance to its 4000 fans to stay top of the league. MVP: Dick Kooy with 19 points, 4 aces, 2 blocks, 75% in reception and 81% in attack.

Daniele Bagnoli (coach Casa Modena): “On the one hand, we have to say that Piacenza had to do without important players. On the other hand, we have to underline as well our excellent performance, we played at an excellent level and always stayed focused. I am obviously very happy with the result. We have to keep training with this intensity”.

Angelo Lorenzetti (coach Copra Elior Piacenza): “It was not easy to train without the players injured, and obviously not easy to play this game. I preferred not to take the risk of lining up Zlatanov, I would have sent him on only at the end of a tight set. Still, we could have done better, especially in the first set”.

TONNO CALLIPO VIBO VALENTIA – M. ROMA VOLLEY 0-3 (27-29, 16-25, 19-25)

TONNO CALLIPO VIBO VALENTIA: Falasca 7, Coscione 2, Cernic 6, Diaz 11, Grassano, Bratoev, Rak 7, Bonetti, Klapwijk 4, Barone 9, Fanuli (L), Nikolov 2. DNP Mignolo. Coach. Blengini.

M. ROMA VOLLEY: Lebl 3, Paolucci, Paparoni (L), Maruotti, Zaytsev 17, Boninfante 4, Bencz 2, Sabbi 15, Cisolla 10, Bjelica 7. DNP Passier, Puliti, Corsano. Coach. Giani.

Vibo lasted just one set then appeared to be struggling to keep up with Roma’s rhythm. The team from the capital, which was desperate to win a game, was more accurate and clinical at the net.

Gianlorenzo Blengini (coach Tonno Callipo Vibo Valentia): “It was tight until the end of the first set. I think things took a different turn precisely because of this end of first set, where, I have to underline, they have won the game. Despite being 24-21 down, they did not give up, they believed in their chance and won the set. The game changed from there, they gained confidence and started to hit the serve hard, and that’s where the difference was made, in the serve-reception area. They were more powerful, while we were not as good to trouble them. In the last set, after a tight start, we struggled to receive some simple balls, we were lacking confidence”.

Andrea Giani (coach M. Roma Volley): “We started the league against three top teams. It was very hard and we failed to convert the opportunities that came our way. It’s a new beginning for us from today: we’ll face teams of our level and we’ll be able to play face to face. It’s obvious that being without a point was not a nice situation and to be honest Vibo was coming off three good games and had less pressure. I think we can get better, improve our level of play. I told my boys we didn’t need much to start flying, because I saw them playing and get better day after day. They’ve been training well and I am convinced that step by step this team will be able to have a good season. Still, I have to say that Vibo is a really good team”.
