Emanuele Birarelli goes back to Palalottomatica arena after the World champs

We’re at the eve of the big event in Roma’s Palalottomatica arena: the Serie A league final between Trentino and Cuneo. Cuneo prefers to remain silent but Emanuele Birarelli talked to us as he goes back to the capital after his experience this summer in the World Championships.

“I have always played with the National team in this arena, and the memories of the last World Championships are still vivid in my mind – said Birarelli – I am really happy to be here with my club and hopefully this will be the perfect place for celebration”. On the other side of the net, there is former national teammate Luigi Mastrangelo “Me and Mastrangelo, we come from two different generations. In September we were together with Italy and now we’re opponent in this crucial moment of the season. We’ll both give it our best shot to win the title. When I started to play at the top level, Mastro was already the heart and soul of the National Team and Italian volleyball. He’s a great player, especially at the net, an example for us young player who had to learn how to block. Going back to the final, we are used to focus only on our club every time we take the Italian shirt off: tomorrow will be a very tough but a thrilling game, for us and the fans”.

Roma capital of Serie A 11 years on

Roma becomes the capital of the Serie A1 again 11 years on. The League final will be decided in Roma’s Palalottomatica arena 11 years after Game 3 between Piaggio Roma, coached by Gian Paolo Montali, and the Modena of Franco Bertoli, played on May 17, 2000 in front of over 15 thousand people. The team from the capital had won the league title at the tie-break.
