Everybody knows he’s a great player. Everybody knows he wrote Italian volleyball’s history and his trophies proves it. And now he has gone one step further amongst the very best scorers of all time: we’re talking about Samuele Papi, who reached the 7500 points between league and cup on March 2 in round 23. He is now ranked 8th. And amongst the player still playing today, he is second behind Hristo Zlatanov, who is sixth of all time with nearly 8.000 points scored (he needs 179 more).
“It’s always nice to have such a record, although it unfortunately means that… I’m getting old – said Papi ironically – More seriously, I am happy because I have been able to play for long years and that result is a testimony, but you can be sure that I will keep playing for a while and who knows, I might reach the 10.000. One thing is for sure, beyond the quantity of points, I would really like to win something with my club more than beat individual record”.
