Serie A1 SUSTENIUM

First return round

Trento stay top. Modena beaten home by Latina. Macerata over Vibo Valentia at the tie-break.

CASA MODENA – ANDREOLI LATINA 1-3 (31-33, 25-18, 23-25, 22-25)

CASA MODENA: Manià (L), Fabroni, Kooistra 12, Dennis 28, Berezhko 10, Kooy 2, Esko 4, Diaz 14, Piscopo 9. DNP Ciabattini, Casadei, Creus Larry, Casoli. Coach. Prandi.

ANDREOLI LATINA: Kovacevic 6, Popelka 4, Kohut 11, Gitto, Sottile 5, Cortina, Pieri (L), Spairani 11, Vujevic 13, Starovic 29. DNP Nonne, Labardi. Coach. Medei.

Latina came away from Modena with the upset. It is back on the winning rail after seven consecutive losses. As for Modena, it’s two defeats in a row following Wednesday’s elimination of the Cev Cup. MVP: Sasa Starovic

Silvano Prandi (Casa Modena): “We played it wrong on some simple plays and we struggled against their floating serve. I’m disappointed with the defeat, we have to analyse carefully the reasons and then focus on the Treviso game. This is obviously not the best way to get to the Italian Cup, but even in just two days we can and must turn things around”.

Giampaolo Medei (Andreoli Latina): “I was hoping for a good performance from the team, but I certainly did not believe we could come in Modena and take the three points. We have worked a lot on our game this week, on specific situations on which we were struggling. Modena has probably not played its best game, but we did very well. This can be a starting point for us”.

TONNO CALLIPO VIBO VALENTIA – LUBE BANCA MARCHE MACERATA 2-3 (25-21, 19-25, 13-25, 25-23, 9-15)

TONNO CALLIPO VIBO VALENTIA: Rivera Caamano 18, Coscione, Ferraro, Anderson 20, Feroleto (L), Kindgard, Baroti 1, Simeonov 15, Ananiev 2, Barone 1, Fanuli (L), Nikolov 7. DNP Suljagic. Coach. Di Pinto.

LUBE BANCA MARCHE MACERATA: Lampariello 3, Savani 21, Paparoni (L), Vermiglio, Conte, Stankovic 13, Van Walle, Cacchiarelli, Omrcen 28, Podrascanin 8. DNP Marchiani, Vadeleux. Coach. Berruto.

You can’t argue with Macerata’s victory, this is a great team but Vibo will be disappointed with Barone’s injury in the first set. MVP Omrcen

Vincenzo di Pinto (Tonno Callipo Vibo Valentia): “A very good exciting game which we had to play manoeuvring the line-up following the umpteenth injury of Barone. A crucial point taken with our heart and courage, as well as the support of those fantastic fans”.

Valerio Vermiglio (Lube Banca Marche Macerata): “We knew it would not be an easy game here in Vibo. We made so many mistakes in the first set and Vibo took advantage. Then, we started to pull together and we managed to clinch a tough but important victory”.

RPA-LUIGIBACCHI.IT SAN GIUSTINO – BRE BANCA LANNUTTI CUNEO 1-3 (22-25, 26-28, 25-22, 21-25)

RPA-LUIGIBACCHI.IT SAN GIUSTINO: Zhukouski 1, Van Den Dries, Schwarz 7, Bartoletti, Dias 24, Giovi (L), Finazzi 6, Nikic 6, Braga 2, Lo Bianco (L), Maric 20, Cester 2, Steuerwald 2. Coach. Zanini.

BRE BANCA LANNUTTI CUNEO: Mastrangelo 7, Henno (L), Parodi 15, Fortunato 2, Wijsmans 13, Carletti, Grbic 4, Peda 6, Nikolov 15, Patriarca, Volkov 5. DNP Galic, Montagna. Coach. Giuliani.

Gym packed to welcome the Italian champions of Cuneo. The hosts surrendered with their heads high in four sets as Cuneo had to work hard for the three points. MVP Wijsmans.

Roberto Braga (RPA-LuigiBacchi.it San Giustino): “It’s been a real battle, we’re a bit disappointed because we would have deserved the tie-break. Still, this performance is a good omen for the future, for the rest of the league given that we’ll face more teams from the top of the league table. We wasted too much in the fourth set, even if their experience made the difference. I am happy to have played and helped the team in the last two sets”.

Alberto Giuliani (allenatore Bre Banca Lannutti Cuneo): “The experience made the difference. I like the team play of my players. It’s great to play in gyms like this one, where there are so many fans, correct too, even as opponents”.

BCC-NEP CASTELLANA GROTTE – ITAS DIATEC TRENTINO 1-3 (13-25, 31-29, 15-25, 23-25)

BCC-NEP CASTELLANA GROTTE: Milushev 19, Rak 14, Cozzi 8, Guglielmi, Guerra 2, Patriarca, Falaschi 1, Torre, Dvoranen 9, Rodriguez 2, Gallotta 9, Cicola (L). DNP Pagano. Coach. Gulinelli.

ITAS DIATEC TRENTINO: Kaziyski 16, Birarelli 9, Della Lunga 2, Juantorena 13, Zygadlo, Vieira De Oliveira 1, Sala 11, Bratoev, Sokolov, Colaci (L), Stokr 25, Bari (L). DNP Leonardi. Coach. Stoytchev.

Stoytchev’s team had to sweat more than expected to get rid of a courageous and spirited Castellana Grotte team, which played face to face with the world champions and even clinched the second set. MVP: Stokr.

Matey Kaziyski (Itas Diatec Trentino): “We started off well, although the game proved to be more difficult than expected. It’s been an interesting encounter and I am happy with the win, which keeps us top with an important advantage”.

Flavio Gulinelli (BCC-NEP Castellana Grotte): “I have seen a few things that we had done in practice this week, I didn’t like the tactical situation at the net. Good use of the middle blockers, which are an important resource for us, but mentally there are still a lot of lapses, we struggle. We could have done more, we lost badly the first set and at the same time I didn’t like the way we let the third set slip away. I think the potential of the group is not the one seen in the first set. We have to learn to play according to our strengths, and if we do so, we can get out of this position. The attitude of the boys during the week was good. We have to start believing in our ability”.

MARMI LANZA VERONA – M. ROMA VOLLEY 3-0 (26-24, 25-22, 25-23)

MARMI LANZA VERONA: Latelli, Pajenk 10, Brunner 9, Meoni 1, Lasko 12, Smerilli (L), Lotman 12, Cala Gerardo 10, Herpe. DNP Centomo, Zingel, Mazzi. Coach. Bagnoli.

M. ROMA VOLLEY: Zaytsev 12, Paolucci, Lebl 1, Uriarte 2, Cesarini (L), Corsini 10, Saraceni 5, Bencz 17, Yosifov 4. DNP Tomatis, Corsano, Cisolla. Coach. Giani.

Verona celebrated its first 3-0 victory of the season thanks to a brilliant Meoni, MVP. Despite being without Poey and Cisolla, Roma played well, but there was little to do against tonight’s Verona team.

Marco Meoni (Marmi Lanza Verona): “We are satisfied with the three points and with tonight’s result. We have played well, the team was in form and I have been able to convert some plays. This is a starting point to build on for us”.

Adriano Paolucci (M. Roma Volley): “Today, Roma did not manage to make it difficult for Verona with the serve. Shame, a couple of more breaks would have been enough to be in it. Meoni made excellent assists to his spikers, congratulations to him”.

ACQUA PARADISO MONZA BRIANZA – COPRA MORPHO PIACENZA 3-0 (25-22, 25-23, 25-20)

ACQUA PARADISO MONZA BRIANZA: Rauwerdink 1, Pesenti, Molteni 9, Buti 5, Rooney 10, Travica 4, Gavotto 17, Shumov 6, Exiga (L). DNP Cetrullo, Krumins, Zito, Alborghetti. Coach. Monti.

COPRA MORPHO PIACENZA: Popp 11, Marra (L), Gonzalez 5, Ruiz 2, Nilsson 14, Zlatanov 16, Holt 1, Tencati 4, Boschi. DNP Piano, Perazzolo, Massari. Coach. Lorenzetti.

Monza begins the second half of regular season with a win over Piacenza. 3-0 the score like in the first meeting between the two teams. Determination and composure were the key factors. MVP: Dragan Travica.

Konstantin Shumov (Acqua Paradiso Monza Brianza): It was definitely the best possible way to start the return games. We knew we had to win after three consecutive losses, although we had played fairly well against Modena. We had a good game, we found it a bit hard in the second set, in which we trailed for most of the time, but in the end we managed to cut the deficit. This is an important victory ahead of Trento’s encounter on Wednesday. We know we can win it, and we also know on which point we have to work to get better”.

Hristo Zlatanov (Copra Morpho Piacenza): What did we miss to win? Determination and consistency, which we have been looking for since the beginning of the season and failed to find. I think this is the main reason. But we’ll keep working for it”.
