Cuneo dominated the Serbian team of Kragujevac 3-0. Giuliani’s boys left very little space for manoeuvre for their opponent. Wijsmans and Parodi scored 11 apiece as Cuneo makes it two wins in two games.
No joy, on the other hand, for Trentino which conceded its first defeat of the season against the Polish side of Belchatow. The European Champions were therefore leapfrogged in the standing by Friedrichshafen, team that Trento will face away in the last round of the first phase. The key to the game came at the end of the first set: Belchatow cancelled out two set points to eventually clinch it. In the next sets, the hosts quickly built some meaningful leads, thanks mainly to Wlazly, Kurek or even Winiarski. As for Trento, Stokr deserves a mention as he tallied 19 points with 56% in attack, while Kaziyski scored 15 points of which 3 blocks. Birarelli left the court in the second set as he felt pain on a right hand finger.

“We started off focused in the first set playing just as we had to – said Kooistra – We found it more difficult in the second and third sets, especially in attack, while they took more risks on the serve. But overall, we stayed composed, we won and are happy to go ahead in this European cup”.
