2010 is the year of Cuneo, the youngsters imitated their “big brothers” by winning the National title on the same score, 3-1, and against the same team, Trentino.
The Under 20 trophy had been in Treviso for two years and it will now travel to Cuneo. Treviso, meanwhile, finishes third thanks to a 3-0 victory over Roma.
The final started off very tight until 9-8. Trento were 22-10 ahead but Macagno’s team tied it at 22 and won it 26-24. Cuneo built a mini-lead in the second set and were ahead almost all of the set, but in the end, Trento just managed to put its nose in front at the death to win it 25-23. The third set ended on the same score but this time in favour of Cuneo. Indeed, thanks to the inspiration from setter Mattia Coscione and the effectiveness of Matteo Bolla (MVP with 25 points, 1 ace and 1 block), Cuneo led from start to finish.
The fourth set was tight until Santin tied it at 18 for Trento. Then, Cuneo managed to pull away and seal the deal at 22-25.

Maurizio Macagno (allenatore Bre Banca Lannutti Cuneo): “This great victory goes first of all to the group, which worked very hard, with consistency and fighting spirit during the whole season. We were definitely no favourite before the final but we were composed and united, credit to the boys even the ones that did not have that many minutes”.
Andrea Burattini (allenatore Itas Diatec Trentino): “We did not manage to play at the same level as Friday afternoon, when we had beaten Cuneo 3-0. This is what we can really be disappointed about. We might have been a bit tired and lost our composure in the clutch moments. Overall, it’s not been a particularly great game, there have been many mistakes from both teams, surely due to the pressure of what was at stake. We’re taking the silver meadal, which probably looks less significant right now than it really is. The group worked a lot and really hard and their progress is there for everyone to be seen”.
