Over 500 fans welcome European champs

The Trentino squad came home yesterday just before midnight, recently crowned European champion for the second consecutive season. More than 500 fans welcomed them at the Pala Trento, as the whole city followed the team’s breakthrough on Sunday. About a hundred supporters were already there at Verona’s airport.

The trophy won in the Atlas Arena is the fifth in the 10-year history of the club. Trentino won the league title in 2008, the Champions League 2009, the World Club Championship in November 2009, the Italian Cup last January and now this third international trophy. Only 8 teams had managed to win the competition twice in a row in 51 years: Dinamo Bucarest, Burevestnik Alma-Ata, CSKA Mosca (three times), Santal Parma, Messaggero Ravenna (from which Trento took the serie A1 rights), Las Daytona Modena, Sisley Treviso and Lokomotiv Belgorod. Thanks to its Italian Cup triumph and the participation in the league final, Trentino has already secured its place in the Champions League next season, having the possibility to achieve a hat-trick, realised only by CSKA Moscow, Ravenna, and Modena.

Chairman Diego Mosna shows all its happiness: “This is such an amazing feeling to realise a dream that few have achieved in the past. This is the result of hard work in the gym and in the offices to plan out things professionally. The second victory in the Champions League is even more fantastic than the first because this confirms the quality of the team and the quality of an accurate planning. It’s undeniable that the stronger team won. We had prepared the game in its every detail, and we had one of the most competitive team around under control. We’ll start focusing on the V-Day from tomorrow: Such victory is definitely the best thing that can happen before meeting a great team like Cuneo. There again, we’ll need all the support we can get from our fans, which were present in this tough trip to Poland”.
