Treviso played to near-perfection and tied the series at 1-1 against Cuneo. Game 3 is Scheduled in Cuneo on Sunday. Treviso clinched two-tight first sets. In the third, Nikolov had to come out and the hosts took full advantage, dominating 25-15. Brazilian Ricardinho was MVP, although everybody played well in this first win in five attempts against Cuneo this season. Alessandro Benetton and wife Deborah Compagnoni were there to watch Treviso’s triumph.
Roberto Piazza (Sisley Treviso): “There is little separating the two teams. All the previous games, even though we lost them all, were all tight. Today, Cuneo played a bit under its usual standard, like our third set of game 1. We improved on the serve and in terms of consistency. We’ll be back from scratch, at 0-0, in game 3. We’ll need to play with the attitude we had tonight”.
Alberto Giuliani (Bre Banca Lannutti Cuneo): “It did not work out fine for us on the serve and at the net today. We struggled during the whole game, apart from the start of the second when we were 4-0 up. Then we lost the momentum at the end of the set, but even if we had won it, the final result would probably not have changed. Treviso played better. Still, we will learn a lot from this defeat, more than from the win in game 1, and you’ll see we’ll be well up for it on Sunday. Nikolov ? He already had problems in the adductors of his right leg. Hopefully, he’ll feel better for game 3”.

Trento stood tall again and took a 2-0 advantage in the series against Macerata thanks to a tie-break win in the Fontescodella. Stoytchev will be back home on Sunday with already a chance to seal the series. Still, everything seemed to go perfectly for the home side as it was 2-1 up and 4-0 in the fourth. But Trentino had not given up yet. Led by Sala (5 blocks and 2 aces) and Vissotto, Trentino got back in it. Sat for long periods on the bench, Kazyiski’s points came at the right time but it was Sala again that was key in the fifth: he got a clutch block at 12-8 on Omrcen and was named MVP.
Marko Podrascanin (Lube Banca Marche Macerata): “We started off like in game 1, with a terrible first set. Then, we had a good reaction, thanks to the push of our amazing fans, playing good volleyball. We should have finished it off in the fourth, we wasted a lead that we should have handled much better. It’s a shame but it’s not over. We’ll go in Trento on Sunday to play the game of our lives”.
Radostin Stoytchev (Itas Diatec Trentino): “It’s been a very complicated game for us, especially in the second set when Macerata started to play really well. Credit to us for being patient, we knew our moment would have come. And when we got in the game, we handled very well the clutch points. It’s very important to be 2-0, but the series is not over, let’s not forget that”.
