Absolutely crucial win for Modena which, after their victory over the European Champions Trento last week, had the better of the Italian Champs, Piacenza. Modena was solid, it showed quality and character in the most important moments of the game. Still, it won 3-0 without playing its best volleyball. Piacienza had to make do without Meoni, Marshall and Rak.
Modena dominated the first set, while the second was a lot tighter. Indeed, it offered a thrilling end with set points for both teams until Modena eventually clinched it 34-32. In the third set, Esko and Dennis made the show, while spiker Cuturic was unstoppable. The fans could celebrate a great victory that sends Modena closer to Treviso and Piacenza in 5th place,
Silvano Prandi (Trenkwalder Modena): “We have not been as good as in other games: let’s say that we are happy to take the win and the three points. We’ll analyse this game and then prepare the next one. I’d like to say a word on the excellent performance of the newcomer, Jasmin Cuturic. Five points against Trento and Piacenza is a great result, but now we’ll face more encounters as tough as these ones: we have to keep improving and gathering points”.
Angelo Lorenzetti (CoprAtlantide Piacenza): “We got ourselves some good opportunities, especially in the first two sets, but we did not take advantage, while Modena had a good game. It’s useless to think of the players missing: the players who were on court made it difficult for Modena and I always think of doing as well as possible with the players at my disposal”.
