TRENKWALDER MODENA – ITAS DIATEC TRENTINO 3-2 (25-23, 23-25, 25-20, 18-25, 15-12) –

TRENKWALDER MODENA: Manià (L), Kooistra 11, Cuturic 1, Dennis 28, Kooy, Biribanti, Esko 4, Casoli 10, Diaz Mayorca 14, Piscopo 11. DNP Ciabattini, Soli, Pagni. Coach. Prandi.

ITAS DIATEC TRENTINO: Kaziyski 22, Birarelli 11, Portuondo Juantorena 22, Vieira De Oliveira 1, Vissotto Neves 9, Sala 9, Sokolov 8, Herpe, Bari (L). DNP Gallosti, Zygadlo, Fedrizzi, Corsini. Coach. Stoytchev.

At the end of a great show of two hours and a half, Modena came out on top against the Cup winners Trentino. This exciting and intense game had the 4000 crowd going crazy. Trento faltered on the serve while Modena performed with consistency and won the first set. The hosts were in control in the second too, until 16-13 that is. Then, Juantorena and Kaziyski took charge to bring Trento level. Setter Esko and outside hitter Dennis combined spectacularly in the third, Kooistra hit the serve hard while Trento lost its way. Once again, Juantorena and Kaziyski helped the guests to tie it, though, as Sokolov was on for Vissotto. In the tie-break, Modena rocketed away (5-1), Trento managed to get back within one (12-11) but Dennis again (28 points) made the difference and Casoli scored the point that sent the crowd on fire. Dennis MVP.

Silvano Prandi (Trenkwalder Modena): “It’s a nice victory. Numbers between us and them are rather similar. This means we did a good job of taking it all in against a team definitely stronger than us, and we did well in the clutch time too. Now we have to focus immediately on Saturday’s game and Piacenza”.

Radostin Stoytchev (Itas Diatec Trentino): “We haven’t played a bad game, but today Modena played better than us and you have to give credit to them. To win here, you have to play well in every area of the game and do so with consistency, and we have had ups and downs. Now, our minds go on the Champions League game in Belgium, where we’ll be facing a very tough game”.

YOGA FORLì – ACQUA PARADISO MONZA 0-3 (23-25, 20-25, 21-25) – YOGA FORLì: Coscione 2, Carrol 8, Popp 14, Stancu 6, Ainsworth, De Pandis (L), Casadei, Loglisci 2, Maric 13, Bacci. DNP Mengozzi, Bianchi, Gotch. Coach. Molducci.

ACQUA PARADISO MONZA: Rauwerdink 11, Krumins, Forni 9, Molteni 8, Buti 11, Travica 5, Gavotto 16, Exiga (L). DNP Sivula, Pesenti, Semenzato, Haldane, Tuominen. Coach. Berruto.

Thanks to the results of the other games, the league table did not change but the way Forli was defeated did hurt. Forli paid the price for the off day that had its outside hitters Carroll and Casadei.

Piero Molducci (Yoga Forlì): “To play with two outside hitters like this is like having the car with flat tires. The spikers did OK but it’s obvious that you cannot win without outside hitters.

Giacomo Molteni (Acqua Paradiso Monza):  “Forli has what it takes to stay up, but we played very well today and took the three points. Forli was tough to beat especially in the first set”.

MARMI LANZA VERONA – COPRATLANTIDE PIACENZA 3-1 (29-27, 28-26, 23-25, 25-18) –

MARMI LANZA VERONA: Latelli, Sottile, Della Lunga 2, Lasko 20, Kovar 7, Curti 1, Holt 6, Colaci (L), Kromm 24, Howard 11. DNP Groppi, Peslac, Galabinov. Coach. Bagnoli.

COPRATLANTIDE PIACENZA: Piano, Meoni, Marshall 13, Grassano, Boninfante 1, Zlatanov 21, Bravo 8, Rinaldi (L), Oivanen 10, Urnaut 4, Bjelica 14. DNP Mazza, Sequeira. Coach. Lorenzetti.

This was a top level and extremely exciting game. Led by MVP Lasko, Verona grabbed three crucial points to qualify for the playoffs. Kromm and Howard registered 5 blocks each as Verona tallied 18 overall.

Michal Lasko (Marmi Lanza Verona): “We have really played top level volleyball, Verona is definitely going through a good moment of form. We are very happy with tonight’s result. We are defending our 8th position and are happy to do so with our amazing fans”.

Angelo Lorenzetti (CoprAtlantide Piacenza): “We’re going home without a point, this is not what we wanted. We have been a bit predictable at times. Verona managed to play at a good level”.

 ANDREOLI LATINA – LUBE BANCA MARCHE MACERATA 1-3 (17-25, 20-25, 25-22, 20-25) –

ANDREOLI LATINA: Van Den Dries, Gitto, Cortina, Giovi (L), Saitta 2, Snippe 14, Nikic 9, Fabroni, Geric 5, Vujevic 8, Spairani 5, Giombini 8. Coach. Medei.

LUBE BANCA MARCHE MACERATA: Raymaekers 5, Cisolla 16, Paparoni, Vermiglio, Bartoletti, Stankovic 9, Martino 8, Monopoli 1, Corsano (L), Omrcen 30, Podrascanin 2. DNP Smerilli, Swiderski. Coach. De Giorgi.

Latina came away from the Pala Bianchini head high, but Macerata is the one that celebrates the three points. Latina’s situation remains unchanged as Loreto, Forli and Pineto lost in three sets.

Davide Saitta (Andreoli Latina): “Shame because we could have taken advantage of our rivals’ defeats: Loreto, Forli and Pineto. We always get off to slow starts before reacting, but like in Piacenza, we fail to take points. Still, this game gives us confidence for the next ones, we must get points next Sunday”.

Alberto Cisolla (Lube Banca Marche Macerata): “It was an excellent game. We began the game extremely focused, then we faded a bit in the third set, as Latina played better on the serve. In the fourth set however, we regained control of the game and took all three points”.

ARAN CUCINE ABRUZZO PINETO – SISLEY TREVISO 0-3 (25-27, 18-25, 16-25) –

ARAN CUCINE ABRUZZO PINETO: Ravellino, Perez Moreno 11, Modica, Lampariello 5, Henrique, Sborgia 6, Di Franco 6, Perazzolo 11, Armeti (L). DNP Centorame. Coach. Fant.

SISLEY TREVISO: Carletti, Fei 15, Horstink 16, Papi 2, Farina (L), Kohut, Sabbi 2, De Togni 6, Bontje 15, Maruotti 5, Vanin (L), Garcia 1. DNP Cuda. Coach. Piazza.

Things went as expected in Roseto, where Treviso won in straight sets over Pineto. Still, the hosts made it difficult for Treviso in the first two sets. MVP: Robert Horstink.

Emanuele Sborgia (Aran Cucine Abruzzo Pineto): “We have given everything we had and we’ll continue to play with determination until the end of the season. In the first set, we played face to face, forcing them over the 25-point mark. At times, we played well too in the second set. Then in the third, some of our players were physically worn out and things became more difficult”.

Alessandro Fei (Sisley Treviso): “The game was tight until the end of the first set, in which we made too many mistakes and had little influence on the serve. In the second set, we served harder, we were more careful at the net and things immediately got better for us”.

Perugia eased up to a 3-0 victory in just over an hour of play. All three sets were one-way traffic with Stokr MVP and Savani doing well too.

Luciano Serenelli (Esseti Carilo Loreto): “Disappointing performance, the team had never played that bad in front of its fans in the PalaSerenelli. Credit to Perugia, which played an excellent game, but unfortunately once again we haven’t played with the determination with which we face the top teams”.

Vigor Bovolenta (RPA LuigiBacchi.it Perugia): “We did well to stay focused from start to finish. We have been going through a tough spell, these wins are very important whether they are in the league or in the cup. Now we have to take as much as we can from the games in February, and then we’ll see where we stand and if we have any chance to clinch a playoff spot”.
