The playoffs 6 are getting closer. Trentino made the first important steps towards the next round with a 3-1 win over the Belgium team of Roeselare in the 8th of final first leg (called also playoff 12). Thanks to this result, Stoytchev’s team will only need two sets in the return leg next week to go through and keep dreaming of a repeat following their triumph in Prague last season in this competition.
Juantorena shined with 17 points and the team played brilliantly at the net, summing up 16 blocks (four for Birarelli), and in attack (57%). Vissotto was at his best with 21 point but the top scorer of the gamer was from Roeselare: the interesting Verhanneman tallied no less than 23.
“The important thing was to win in order to approach the second leg with a good chance to go through: we have reached our target – said coach Stoytchev – Having said that, it has to be said that in the first sets we did not play at our best, not only because of Juantorena’s injury or other errors from our part but also because our opponent played well. Roeselare made it really difficult for us with a fast-paced game, difficult to read, and with a threatening jump floating serve. We managed to have the better thanks to our usual character an determination. Tonight again, the team, and especially Juantorena proved how good they were. This result is important but not decisive. We will still have to win two sets in Belgium but at least we have the advantage to know our opponent better now, so I’m confident”.
