We would have liked to write about the amazing two hours and eight minutes of play, which ended on a 14-16 tie-break win for Latina, about Giombini’s brilliant performance (33 points), but instead what stood out was how unappropriate was the performance of the referees in charge of the game, which both teams could have deservedly won.
The key moment, which followed a series of bad decision was the unfair expulsion of Castellana’s coach Radames Lattari. The already negative ongoings from the refs went from bad to worse from that point on, with the second ref even making taunting gestures towards the crowd. This should not excuse the behaviour of a small part of fans but the guilt cannot be given to any other persons than the referees, who let things completely go out of hand.
This is a real shame as both team had put on an excellent display, surely deserving to be refereed on a different level.
