Serie A1 TIM – Round 18

Piacenza breaks Cuneo’s winning streak, while Trento goes 6 points clear at the top. At the bottom, only Latina grabs a point against Modena.

ANDREOLI LATINA – TRENKWALDER MODENA 2-3 (25-27, 22-25, 25-17, 25-17, 13-15) –

ANDREOLI LATINA: Van Den Dries 3, Gitto, Giovi (L), Saitta 3, Snippe 14, Nikic 2, Fabroni 3, Geric 12, Vujevic 16, Spairani 9, Giombini 20. DNP Cortina. Coach. Medei.

TRENKWALDER MODENA: Manià (L), Soli, Kooistra 15, Dennis 31, Pagni 2, Kooy, Ciabattini, Esko 2, Casoli 7, Diaz Mayorca 13, Piscopo 4. DNP Biribanti. Coach. Prandi.

Latina grabbed a crucial point against Modena at the end of a spectacular game. Dennis led Modena to a two-nil lead but then Latina ignited a comeback to force a tie-break.

Giampaolo Medei (Andreoli Latina): “I am very satisfied with the way my team played. The group worked as a unit, everybody contributed and we proved we could be competitive against anyone. The disappointment lies more on the first set than the fifth”.

Camillo Placì (Trenkwalder Modena): “Congratulations to Latina for their performance today. We struggled to receive their serve. Casoli was not hundred percent fit. Dennis is a crucial player in our team but he played well in the set that mattered”.

 LUBE BANCA MARCHE MACERATA – RPA-LUIGIBACCHI.IT PERUGIA 3-1 (25-21, 17-25, 25-20, 25-23) –

LUBE BANCA MARCHE MACERATA: Lebl 4, Raymaekers 4, Cisolla 8, Paparoni 2, Vermiglio 2, Bartoletti 1, Fantin 4, Smerilli (L), Martino 6, Monopoli 1, Omrcen 20, Podrascanin 7. DNP Corsano. Coach. De Giorgi.

RPA-LUIGIBACCHI.IT PERUGIA: Hubner 8, Savani 21, Bucaioni, Cernic, Nemec 7, Ogurcak 1, Sintini 5, Pippi (L), Stokr 12, Bovolenta 1. DNP Lo Bianco, Fanuli. Coach. Di Pinto.

Still without Corsano, Macerata made a “full” of victories with the latest against Perugia, which ruined Di Pinto’s debut on the bench. Igor Omrcen was written all over this win. The Croatian was logically named MVP as he tallied 20 points. De Giorgi had to give up on Cisolla who suffered a knee problem.

Massimo Caponeri (Lube Banca Marche Macerata): “It was a team effort, the bench contributed too. Monopli, Raymaekers, Dentinho and Smerilli, who played the whole game, have all been decisive at one point or another. We are improving, we have not reached our peak yet, we clearly have a big margin for improvement, but the team is on the right track. We are working well, everybody is eager to do well and we all know this team can go far”.

Vincenzo Di Pinto (RPA- LuigiBacchi.it Perugia): “We had a good game, we managed to turn things around when Macerata seemed bound to win 3-0. The difference was made in certain episodes, especially on Omrcen’s serve. We did well to stay in the game all the time, maintaining a good rhythm. There are obviously things to work on but some aspects already satisfied me. We have a good basis on which to work on and improve”.

MARMI LANZA VERONA – ESSE-TI CARILO LORETO 3-0 (25-20, 25-23, 25-23) –

MARMI LANZA VERONA: Latelli, Sottile 1, Della Lunga 7, Lasko 13, Kovar 2, Curti 7, Holt 12, Colaci (L), Kromm 12, Howard. DNP Groppi, Peslac. Coach. Bagnoli.

ESSE-TI CARILO LORETO: De Angelo Freitas 11, Marra (L), Marzola 1, Diachkov, Dolfo 8, Tereshin, Vigilante 10, Belcecchi 2, Paoli 1, Cester 9, Shumov 6. DNP Caporaletti, Visentin. Coach. Moretti.

Loreto tried hard to stay close but Verona was determined to show its worth and it did so taking all three points. Maxwell Holt (89% in attack, one ace and three blocks) was named MVP as Macerata took revenge on the defeat suffered in the first meeting between the two teams this season.

Massimo Colaci (Marmi Lanza Verona): “They are an especially good team at the net and they proved it. Still, we really wanted the win in front of our fans to finish the 2009 season and take revenge on our loss against them in our first meeting. We are happy with the win and also with the way we obtained it”.

Enrico Cester (Esse-ti Carilo Loreto): “Here is another defeat that will further hurt our confidence. It’s a shame because we have been close, and at times we were ahead but in the end of sets we didn’t manage to seal it. Congratulations to Verona; we’ll have to try our best to get points at every game”.

ACQUA PARADISO MONZA – ITAS DIATEC TRENTINO 1-3 (25-17, 24-26, 23-25, 19-25) –

ACQUA PARADISO MONZA: Rauwerdink 15, Krumins, Haldane 3, Forni 2, Molteni 16, Buti 11, Travica 3, Gavotto 24, Exiga (L). DNP Sivula, Pesenti, Tuominen, De Luca. Coach. Berruto.

ITAS DIATEC TRENTINO: Kaziyski 20, Gallosti (L), Birarelli 10, Portuondo Juantorena 14, Vieira De Oliveira 1, Vissotto Neves 13, Sala 2, Sokolov 2, Herpe 1, Bari (L). DNP Zygadlo, Fedrizzi, Corsini. Coach. Stoytchev.

Monza deceived its 3000 fans for while but in the end it had to surrender against the league leaders Trentino in four sets. Out of three return games, this is already the second home loss for Monza. Macerata’s inspiration came from Vissotto (who came on for Sokolov in the second set) and Kaziyski, the MVP of the game. The hosts had 24 points from Gavotto, while Exiga provided some excellent digs.

Matey Kaziyski (Itas Diatec Trentino): “We did not get off to a brilliant start. In the first three sets we struggled and Monza played very well, they took chances by hitting the serve hard and did some extraordinary digs. They made it difficult for us, but we did well to never give up and play until the last play to win it”.

Jeroewn Rauwerdink (Acqua Paradiso Monza): “We got off to an excellent start, with fighting spirit. Shame at 24-23 up in the second not to have sealed it. At the end of the day, we faced a very strong team, now we have to focus on the game against Cuneo on the 30th of December. In our first meeting this season, we won 3-2 at home, hopefully we’ll do as well this time round, it will be an important game for us”.

COPRATLANTIDE PIACENZA – BRE BANCA LANNUTTI CUNEO 3-1 (27-25, 21-25, 25-22, 25-21) –

COPRATLANTIDE PIACENZA: Rak 8, Meoni, Marshall 23, Grassano, Boninfante 1, Zlatanov 22, Bravo 5, Rinaldi (L), Urnaut 3, Bjelica 10. DNP Mazza, Sequeira, Oivanen. Coach. Lorenzetti.

BRE BANCA LANNUTTI CUNEO: Henno (L), Parodi 16, Ariaudo, Fortunato 7, Nuti, Nikolov 14, Grbic 4, Peda 1, Mastrangelo 8, Patriarca 12. DNP Wijsmans, Jeroncic, Pieri. Coach. Giuliani.

Piacenza clinched an unbelievable victory in a real battle from start to finish. A win that will give the team confidence, very important given the clash with Treviso in the Cup on Wednesday. Wijmans started on the bench as he hasn’t completely recovered from his physical problems. Marshall stood out, his consistency was key in his team triumph.

Angelo Lorenzetti (CoprAtlantide Piacenza): “We wanted to remain focus and play hard even if they were without important players and, despite a difficult start, we managed to do so. We wanted to finally win against one of the top teams. We did it today although we haven’t reached our best form yet. This game should help us to face future big encounters like the one on Wednesday”.

Alberto Giuliani (Bre Banca Lannutti Cuneo): “We could have done a little bit better, we had too many problems. We should have risked more, especially on the serve. We had not our full squad, but this should not be an excuse. Piacenza was more efficient and decisive in the clutch time and it deserved to win”.

SISLEY TREVISO – TONNO CALLIPO VIBO VALENTIA 3-1 (23-25, 25-20, 25-21, 25-22) –

SISLEY TREVISO: Carletti, Fei 14, Horstink 8, Papi 8, Farina (L), De Togni 12, Bontje 15, Maruotti 4, Garcia 3, Cuda 5. DNP Kohut, Sabbi, Vanin. Coach. Piazza.

TONNO CALLIPO VIBO VALENTIA: Gonzalez 5, Corvetta 2, Marquez 22, Andrae 17, Saraceni 2, Quiroga 8, Tencati 2, Barone 6, Cicola (L). DNP Cannistrà, Ferraro, Simeonov. Coach. Uriarte.

Treviso registered its 8th consecutive win at the expense of Vibo Valentia as Alessandro Fei was back for coach Piazza. Treviso consolidates its third place in the table.

Roberto Piazza (Sisley Volley): “We struggled in the first set, we couldn’t find our rhythm and concentration. We loosened up from the second set on and the team spirit did the rest. Papi had a great performance in reception. Fei? It was important to have him back in the team before the game against Piacenza, and he did rather well. We’ll focus on the cup game from Monday, it was important to get those points”.

Jon Uriarte (Tonno Callipo Vibo Valentia): “Shame, we could have done better, unfortunately we haven’t found the way to turn things around in the clutch times, when Treviso proved clinical. Still, there have been positive things. We’ll go back to Vibo with a little bit more confidence although there is a lot of work to be done”.

YOGA FORLì – PRISMA TARANTO 0-3 (26-28, 23-25, 12-25) –

YOGA FORLì: Coscione 2, Carrol 11, Popp 13, Stancu, Ainsworth 2, De Pandis (L), Casadei 1, Loglisci 2, Maric 15, Bacci. DNP Mengozzi, Bianchi, Gotch. Coach. Molducci.

PRISMA TARANTO: De Oliveira 20, Ricciardello (L), Candellaro 1, Cozzi 8, Suxho 2, Rodrigo Pinto 18, Quartarone, Bartman 10. DNP Montagna, Moretti, Westphal, Elia, Spescha. Coach. Nacci.

Taranto registered a deserved win against Forli. It came back in the first set to win it and then made few mistakes. Easy third set.

Piero Molducci (Yoga Forlì): “Taranto is a good team and it has excellent players, especially spikers. In our first two sets, we made too many mistakes. Every game is a different story, let’s focus on the game against Pineto now”.

De Oliveira Cleber (Prisma Taranto): “We really wanted to play a good game before the arrival of the new coach. I was keen to do well and when I play, I like to get the crowd involved because this helps me to motivate me more”.
