Serie A1 TIM Round 13

Trento on a roll.

But followers (Modena, Cuneo, Piacenza and Treviso) don’t falter

Cuneo hangs on to second place with Modena thanks to away win at Macerata.

PRISMA TARANTO – ESSE-TI CARILO LORETO 3-1 (22-25, 25-18, 25-23, 25-23) –

PRISMA TARANTO: De Oliveira 15, Ricciardello (L), Cozzi 10, Suxho 8, Westphal, Elia 9, Rodrigo Pinto 20, Abbadi 8, Spescha. DNP Candellaro, Montagna, Moretti, Quartarone. Coach. Montagnani Paolo.

ESSE-TI CARILO LORETO: De Angelo Freitas 10, Marra (L), Marzola, Diachkov 15, Dolfo 2, Visentin 1, Vigilante 21, Belcecchi, Paoli 4, Cester 3, Shumov 7. Coach. Rampazzo Federico.

The key: Taranto built its triumph on the serve. Only four aces but a lot of half-point gathered on Cleber, Elia and Suxho’s turns. 25 mistakes too many for Loreto, while Taranto has four players in double figures.

Donald Suxho (Prisma Taranto): “I’m happy with the win. We might not have played that well but the important was to get the three points. I’m glad I got the MVP award but I think the prize has to be shared with the rest of the team. Volleyball does not live of individualities but of the unity of a team”.

Luca Moretti (Esse-ti Carilo Loreto): “They made it difficult for us in reception with serves that were not hit that hard. We struggled after the first set with the flow of our game. The positive thing is that, in the sets lost, we were in it. In the end, we’ve also probably lost composure and made a few silly mistakes”.

LUBE BANCA MARCHE MACERATA – BRE BANCA LANNUTTI CUNEO 1-3 (25-14, 21-25, 12-25, 20-25) –

LUBE BANCA MARCHE MACERATA: Lebl 6, Raymaekers 4, Cisolla 11, Paparoni 7, Vermiglio 4, Bartoletti, Fantin, Smerilli (L), Martino 1, Monopoli, Corsano (L), Omrcen 17, Podrascanin 8. Coach. De Giorgi Ferdinando.

BRE BANCA LANNUTTI CUNEO: Wijsmans 15, Henno (L), Parodi 9, Fortunato 6, Nuti, Nikolov 17, Grbic 5, Peda 2, Mastrangelo 5, Patriarca, Pieri (L). DNP Ariaudo, Mulatero. Coach. Giuliani Alberto.

Cuneo came back from Macerata’s Fontescodella gym with all three points, being almost guaranteed to play the Italian Cup quarter final at home. This is something which has become more difficult for Macerata after this defeat.

Ferdinando De Giorgi (Lube Banca Marche Macerata): “In the second set, after a good start, we struggled to do too many things, attack and reception above all, without ever managing to maintain our level of play. Cuneo is a strong team, which puts the opponent under pressure, but we could have done better in certain phases of the game. We have two games left before the halfway point of the season, we must take 6 points. This is the beginning of a very intense and important period for us, with the Champions League coming up, we’ll play every three days, and we will need every one to get some results”.

Vladimir Nikolov (Bre Banca Lannutti Cuneo): “Macerata got off to an excellent start, and we struggled a lot. Then, we found our rhythm, and in the end we obtained three crucial points on the court of one of the strongest teams of this league. I think we deserved it”.

ITAS DIATEC TRENTINO – ARAN CUCINE ABRUZZO PINETO 3-0 (25-23, 25-17, 25-19) –

ITAS DIATEC TRENTINO: Kaziyski 11, Gallosti (L), Birarelli 8, Portuondo Juantorena 11, Zygadlo 2, Vieira De Oliveira 2, Vissotto Neves 14, Sala 3, Fedrizzi 2, Corsini 4, Herpe 3, Bari (L). DNP: Garcia Pires Ribeiro. Coach. Stoytchev Radostin.

ARAN CUCINE ABRUZZO PINETO: Ravellino 3, Roberts 9, Hernandez 6, Lampariello (L), Henrique 1, Sborgia, Di Franco 7, Perazzolo 3, Ereu 12, Armeti (L), Gradinarov. DNP: Perez Moreno. Coach. Fant Roberto.

Trentino left  Perugia as little as 59 points in three sets. Severely defeated on Thursday against Cuneo, the arrival of new coach could not avoid a second battering. It has to be said that coach Stoytchev has also limited the court time of some of his players to rest them before the Champions League.

Renaud Herpe (Itas Diatec Trentino): “These have been three easy points but still important because this allow us to stay top with a good margin on our followers. Let’s focus on the Champions League now, we know that whoever is lined up can do well”.

COPRATLANTIDE PIACENZA – RPA-LUIGIBACCHI.IT PERUGIA 3-1 (25-18, 23-25, 29-27, 26-24) –

COPRATLANTIDE PIACENZA: Rak 10, Massari, Meoni 5, Marshall 16, Grassano (L), Boninfante, Sequeira, Zlatanov 27, Bravo 8, Oivanen, Urnaut 8, Bjelica 10. DNP: Durante. Coach. Lorenzetti Angelo.

RPA-LUIGIBACCHI.IT PERUGIA: Hubner 8, Bucaioni, Cernic 14, Nemec 13, Botti, Sintini 2, Lo Bianco, Stokr 21, Fanuli (L), Bovolenta 5. DNP: Savani, Ogurcak, Pippi. Coach. Sartoretti Andrea.

Piacenza had the better of Perugia 3-1. The Italian champs did not solve all its problems today but coach Lorenzetti has more than one reason to smile. His team had to fight hard from start to finish, it needed all the energy of Captain and MVP Zlatanov to get the three points.

Novica Bjelica (CoprAtlantide Piacenza): “Crucial win for our league position. The European competition will start now and we can face it with only one thing on our mind: we have a very tough and balanced group in which each team has 25% of chances to go through. As for today’s game, we haven’t played a fantastic game, but we undeniably changed our approach to the game and we did not put our heads down when we were in trouble as it happened in the past”.

Andrea Sartoretti (RPA LuigiBacchi.it Perugia): “Despite a few injury problems, the team played with its heart. I can’t reproach them much, unfortunately we haven’t taken advantage of the opportunities we had at the end of the third and fourth set and against a team like Piacenza, you pay cash”.

SISLEY TREVISO – ACQUA PARADISO MONZA 3-1 (22-25, 25-22, 26-24, 25-23) –

SISLEY TREVISO: Carletti, Fei 12, Papi 12, Farina (L), Kohut 6, De Togni 4, Bontje 17, Maruotti 8, Garcia 6. DNP Sabbi, Vanin, Cuda. Coach. Piazza Roberto.

ACQUA PARADISO MONZA: Sivula, Rauwerdink 13, Krumins, Haldane 2, Tuominen, Forni 7, Molteni 12, Buti 9, Travica 2, Gavotto 16, Exiga (L). DNP Pesenti, Semenzato. Coach. Berruto Mauro.

Treviso had the better of Monza 3-1 despite being without Horstink, injured. The game was filled with mistakes, especially from Monza which struggled in attack. Only Buti and Molteni reached the 50% mark.

Roberto Piazza (Sisley Treviso): “It’s been a very tight encounter, but you can’t expect easy games in the Italian League. Ricardo did extremely well in the important moments to maintain a high level of play and, in the fourth set, Fei hit it hard and made it difficult for our opponent, which played an excellent game”.

Jeroen Rawerdink (Acqua Paradiso Monza): “We made too many mistakes. We played with courage and fighting spirit but against Treviso, this is not always enough”.

TRENKWALDER MODENA – TONNO CALLIPO VIBO VALENTIA 3-0 (26-24, 25-23, 25-23) –

TRENKWALDER MODENA: Manià (L), Kooistra 15, Dennis 24, Pagni 5, Kooy 1, Biribanti, Esko 3, Meszaros 1, Casoli 3, Diaz Mayorca 8. DNP: Ciabattini, Soli, Piscopo. Coach. Prandi Silvano.

TONNO CALLIPO VIBO VALENTIA: Gonzalez 9, Andrae 14, Saraceni 7, Moltò 6, Simeonov 12, Tencati 5, Cicola (L). DNP: Cannistrà, Contreras, Corvetta, Marquez, Ferraro, Barone. Coach. Uriarte Jon.

Modena adds up to its winning streak by sweeping Vibo Valentia. Over 3000 fans witnessed an intense and tight game in which Modena’s composure and efficiency in the clutch time prevailed. The hosts could count on an outstanding Dennis (MVP with 24 points and 60% in attack) and a super Kooistra (15 points, 3 aces and 3 blocks).

Silvano Prandi (Trenkwalder Modena): “We have not been as brilliant as in other games, but this is a very important victory. Our strength come mainly from the pair Esko-Dennis and the efficiency of our middleblockers, while we have to improve on the wings. Second place? As I always say, it’s better to think one game at a time: From tomorrow, I’ll have in mind a very difficult trip to Forli on Saturday”.

Jon Uriarte (Tonno Callipo Vibo Valentia): “We had a good game against a Modena team led by the top class pair of Esko and Dennis. Unfortunately we were pegged back both in the second and third set after being ahead. The Italian Cup? We keep believing we can make it, and until the last play we will do everything possible to get in the top eight”.

MARMI LANZA VERONA – YOGA FORLI’ 3-1 (24-26, 25-20, 25-21, 25-14) –

MARMI LANZA VERONA: Latelli (L), Groppi, Sottile 1, Della Lunga 17, Lasko 15, Kovar 11, Curti 8, Holt 12, Colaci (L), Kromm 11, Howard. DNP: Peslac, Galabinov. Coach. Bagnoli Bruno.

YOGA FORLI’: Mengozzi 2, Coscione 3, Carrol 11, Popp 14, Stancu 4, Ainsworth, De Pandis (L), Bianchi (L), Casadei 2, Loglisci 4, Maric 10, Bacci. DNP: Moretti. Coach. Molducci Piero.

Verona quickly put the disappointment of the Monza game behind as it celebrates a three-point victory over Forli. Impressive at the net with 16 blocks, it was also effective from the serve testimony the 6 aces. Dalla Lunga MVP.

Dore Della Lunga (Marmi Lanza Verona): “I’m very satisfied with the performance. This was one to win for whatever target we have in mind. After an unconvincing first set, we did well to get back play after play. Verona’s fans, and all the others too, love to watch good volleyball. We played with fighting spirit and we like that too”.

Marcus Popp (Yoga Forlì): “We really struggled in reception, we still haven’t found the system of play we’d need to beat the other teams. We find it really hard once we fall behind on the scoreboard, this is something we have to improve on”.
