Serie A1 TIM 10th round

Surprises all the way. Vibo Valentia and Prisma Taranto over Macerata and Treviso. Modena close to the top: It wins in Piacenza and it dreams of beating the World Champions of Trento on Thursday. At the bottom, Forli’s on the up: it stopped Perugia.

ESSE-TI CARILO LORETO – BRE BANCA LANNUTTI CUNEO 0-3 (19-25, 10-25, 18-25) –

ESSE-TI CARILO LORETO: De Angelo Freitas 4, Marra (L), Marzola, Diachkov 9, Visentin, Vigilante 9, Belcecchi, Paoli 1, Cester 3, Shumov 4. DNP Dolfo. Coach. Moretti Luca.

BRE BANCA LANNUTTI CUNEO: Wijsmans 13, Henno (L), Parodi 10, Fortunato 8, Nikolov 16, Grbic 3, Mastrangelo 8. DNP Ariaudo, Nuti, Jeroncic, Peda, Patriarca, Pieri. Coach. Giuliani Alberto.

Cuneo dominated Loreto, which had Diachkov back in the starting six but which was without the fighting spirit of the first outings. No suspense, Cuneo had its way from the first points on with its play well orchestrated by Nikola Grbic (MVP). Besides, it blocked no less than 16 times.

Simone Parodi (Bre Banca Lannutti Cuneo): “We stayed focused all the time because we knew that Loreto is a dangerous team in its gym. We did well to remain aggressive in every area of the game, even at the end of the it, when we were near to victory”.

Luca Moretti (Esse-ti Carilo Loreto): “It is undeniably our worse game of the season. We did not manage to react when in difficulty, we just put our heads down, losing confidence and making silly mistakes, which made it even easier for Cuneo”.

TONNO CALLIPO VIBO VALENTIA – LUBE BANCA MARCHE MACERATA 3-2 (19-25, 25-23, 25-19, 20-25, 15-11) –

TONNO CALLIPO VIBO VALENTIA: Contreras 12, Gonzalez 8, Marquez 4, Andrae 14, Saraceni, Moltò 7, Simeonov 13, Tencati 10, Barone, Cicola (L). DNP Cannistrà, Corvetta, Ferraro. Coach. Uriarte Jon.

LUBE BANCA MARCHE MACERATA: Lebl 15, Raymaekers 8, Cisolla 7, Paparoni 2, Vermiglio 2, Bartoletti, Fantin 1, Martino 6, Monopoli, Corsano (L), Omrcen 31. DNP Smerilli, Swiderski. Coach. De Giorgi Ferdinando.

Vibo Valentia obtained a splendid victory over one of the top teams of the league. Macerata made mistakes and if it were not for the presence of Vermiglio and Omrcen, it could have been even worse. A golden point against a team that had only tire out in the fourth set after three good ones.

Fefè de Giorgi (Lube Banca Marche Macerata): “Today again we’ve played only in flashes. It’s been happening for a while now and we are paying the price dearly. Given the way we played the first set, we were hoping for a better ending. Credit to Vibo who believed in it and deserved the win”.

Jon Uriarte (Tonno Callipo Vibo Valentia): “Thanks to everyone, from players to fans and staff. We’ve played a great game at the end of an intense week of work. We are happy with what we’ve done and for this win that allow us to stand tall in the league table”.

COPRATLANTIDE PIACENZA – TRENKWALDER MODENA 1-3 (14-25, 22-25, 25-20, 33-35) –

COPRATLANTIDE PIACENZA: Rak 2, Meoni, Marshall 18, Grassano 3, Boninfante 3, Sequeira, Zlatanov 22, Durante (L), Oivanen 2, Urnaut 14, Bjelica 6. DNP Mazza. Coach. Lorenzetti Angelo.

TRENKWALDER MODENA: Manià (L), Ciabattini (L), Kooistra 8, Dennis 21, Pagni 7, Kooy 3, Biribanti, Esko 4, Meszaros 14, Casoli 2, Diaz Mayorca 14. DNP Soli, Piscopo. Coach. Prandi Silvano.

Modena came back from Piacenza with a 3-1 win. Led by Esko and Diaz, it did just about everything well. Piacenza was quick to forget about the debacle of the first set and tried to take it to the tie-break. It fell just short as Modena concluded on an unbelievable 35-33 score in the fourth. A win over the champions is always significant. This brings confidence and enables the team to catch up Piacenza in second place in the table.

Angelo Lorenzetti (CoprAtlantide Piacenza): “Nothing positive to take out of it. We haven’t played, we stayed in the game only thanks to the mistakes of our opponent. We’ve lost again against a team classified in the top part of the table. We should ask ourselves why this is happening. We will stick together and work harder to overcome this problem”.

Silvano Prandi (Trenkwalder Modena): “Piacenza played poorly, it wasn’t consistent and we took advantage. I’m a bit angry because at 8-0 in the fourth set, we let them back in, and in such occasion you usually pay such mistakes”.

ACQUA PARADISO MONZA – ARAN CUCINE ABRUZZO PINETO 3-0 (25-21, 25-22, 26-24) –

ACQUA PARADISO MONZA: Rauwerdink 12, Krumins 1, Forni 9, Molteni 9, Buti 8, Travica 1, Gavotto 18, Exiga (L). Non entrati Sivula, Pesenti, Haldane, Tuominen, De Luca. All. Berruto Mauro.

ARAN CUCINE ABRUZZO PINETO: Ravellino 6, Perez Moreno 6, Roberts 12, Modica, Lampariello (L), Henrique 2, Sborgia 8, Di Franco, Ereu 12, Gradinarov 2. Non entrati Perazzolo, Armeti. All. Brutti Alessandro.

Monza is back to winning ways in its gym. It earned a straight set win over Piento. Dragan Traviuca was the best on court, he handled his spikers with authority. The ice on the cake came just one point from the end with Simone Buti’s hundredth block at 25-24.

Dragan Travica (Acqua Paradiso Monza): “These three points are very important for us, it’s good for the spirit. We deserved the victory, even if we did not shine, we showed character, especially in the second and third set, in which we digged and fought for every single point. It was important to win given the result of the other time. We did it and are very satisfied”.

Emanuele Sborgia (Aran Cucine Abruzzo Pineto): “We did not play that badly, we are certainly not satisfied with the result but we played all right. The difference in this case is a player, incisive, a central figure, this is what we lacked, somebody that handled every different situations”.

YOGA FORLì – RPA-LUIGIBACCHI.IT PERUGIA 2-3 (22-25, 25-20, 22-25, 28-26, 12-15) –

YOGA FORLì: Coscione 2, Carrol 22, Popp 14, Stancu 14, Ainsworth, De Pandis (L), Casadei, Loglisci 9, Maric 21. DNP Mengozzi, Gjorgiev, Bianchi, Bacci. Coach. Molducci Piero.

RPA-LUIGIBACCHI.IT PERUGIA: Hubner, Savani 20, Cernic 18, Nemec, Botti 10, Sintini 1, Pippi (L), Lo Bianco, Stokr 23, Bovolenta 11. DNP Bucaioni, Ogurcak, Fanuli. Coach. Sartoretti Andrea.

Thrilling game, a hard-fought one that could have gone either way. Forli and Perugia used their main weapons, in a tight game that the crowd enjoyed. In the end, the team that made the least mistakes pulled it off. Molducci’s team responded to the great technique of Perugia with good digging and a great variety of schemes. Stokr named MVP: but Botti and Savani did very well too. As for Forli, Carroll stood out again, with Stancu (4 blocks and 71% in attack on 14 balls) and De Pandis, who finished with 74%.

Marcus Popp (Yoga Forlì): “We had an excellent performance against a very good team. I think that after two games in a row gathering points, we can go to Treviso confident we can do something”.

Massimo Botti (Rpa-Luigibacchi Perugia): “We won it because we have been a little more cunning and experienced in the clutch moments. Still, Forli was good, they pulled together and made it difficult for us”.

PRISMA TARANTO – SISLEY TREVISO 3-1 (28-26, 25-21, 21-25, 25-23) –

PRISMA TARANTO: De Oliveira 19, Ricciardello (L), Cozzi 7, Moretti, Suxho 8, Westphal, Elia 3, Rodrigo Pinto 20, Abbadi 12, Spescha 3. DNP Candellaro, Montagna, Quartarone. Coach. Montagnani Paolo.

SISLEY TREVISO: Carletti, Fei 16, Horstink 16, Papi 5, Farina (L), Kohut 5, De Togni 1, Bontje 17, Maruotti 5, Garcia 2. DNP Sabbi, Vanin, Cuda. Coach. Piazza Roberto.

To say the key to the game was Rivaldo’s comeback would be too easy. The Brazilian outside hitter came in every end of sets won by Taranto, scoring the clutch points. His return was decisive but so was Ellia’s. Montagnani’s team was balanced again in every fundamental and it had a near-perfect performance in which every player did his bit”.

Roberto Piazza (Sisley Treviso): “Taranto deserved the win even if it had a little bit of luck in the first set. They were having a positive night from its Brazilians who scored the most important points. Congratulations to Taranto who was exceptionally well organised. My team only played well in the third and I wonder why we woke up just in that set. We were not united, we played in flashes and without pulling together: This is a heavy KO. We didn’t play as Treviso can”.

Cleber de Oliveira (Prisma Taranto): “We showed all our potential, we put the difficult last few weeks behind us, and took three points against a great team. This gives us great motivation, I am happy with my performance and the one of my teammates. We worked hard in training and it eventually paid off in front of our fans who were fantastic”.
