Serie A1 TIM 9th round

Piacenza gets closer to Trento, which is in Doha for the World Club Championships.

Forli upset Monza.

 TONNO CALLIPO VIBO VALENTIA – PRISMA TARANTO 3-0 (25-21, 25-22, 28-26) –

TONNO CALLIPO VIBO VALENTIA: Gonzalez 5, Andrae 15, Ferraro (L), Saraceni 9, Moltò 11, Simeonov 14, Tencati 7, Cicola (L). DNP Cannistrà, Contreras, Corvetta, Marquez, Barone. Coach. Uriarte Jon.

PRISMA TARANTO: De Oliveira 18, Ricciardello (L), Candellaro 2, Cozzi 5, Moretti 18, Suxho 1, Westphal, Abbadi 8, Spescha 3. DNP Montagna, Elia, Rodrigo Pinto, Quartarone. Coach. Montagnani Paolo.

A super performance from Vibo Valentia had Taranto on their knees, as German Bjorn Andrae shined and seemed to back at the level he was a month ago. The ‘4’ did just about everything, attempting many spikes, with top class hits. Captain Vicenzo Simeonov was back after two months out. With him on court, it’s a different story. Besides, Gonzalez has been brilliant in guiding his men with his usual shrewdness.

Jon Uriarte (Tonno Callipo Vibo Valentia): “I’m happy with the performance of the guys in a crucial game that could have been tricky. Everything went well, we’ll now focus on Sunday’s game against Macerata”.

Paolo Montagnani (Prisma Taranto): “My team reacted well in the difficult moments. Maybe, we needed a couple of more blocks, especially in specific moments. Hopefully, Rivaldo will be back soon, although Moretti did not have a bad game”.

ACQUA PARADISO MONZA – YOGA FORLI’ 2-3 (19-25, 25-20, 26-24, 24-26, 14-16) –

ACQUA PARADISO MONZA: Sivula, Rauwerdink 13, Haldane 8, Forni 2, Molteni 9, Buti 14, Travica 1, Gavotto 28, Exiga (L). DNP Pesenti, Krumins, Tuominen, De Luca. Coach. Berruto Mauro.

YOGA FORLì: Mengozzi 1, Coscione 4, Carrol 27, Popp 15, Stancu 15, Ainsworth 3, De Pandis (L), Loglisci 3, Maric 13. DNP Gjorgiev, Bianchi, Casadei, Bacci. Coach. Molducci Piero.

Monza was defeated at the tie-break against a Forli team always focused on the job in hand, even in the worst spells. Monza failed to seal the fourth set when they were four points ahead.

Jason Haldane (Acqua Paradiso Monza): “We really shouldn’t have lost this game, now we are forced to get a win against Pineto next Sunday. It’s not been one of the best games and in the fourth set, we did not manage to win it despite our lead. We did pretty poorly on the counter today”.

Manuel Coscione (Yoga Forlì): “These are two golden points, and away from home as well. It was not easy to win in Monza but we played hard all the way, we finally managed to play with fighting spirit”.

COPRATLANTIDE PIACENZA – MARMI LANZA VERONA 3-0 (25-18, 25-16, 25-14) –

COPRATLANTIDE PIACENZA: Rak 9, Meoni 2, Marshall 12, Grassano, Sequeira, Zlatanov 14, Durante (L), Urnaut 10, Bjelica 8. DNP Mazza, Boninfante, Oivanen. Coach. Lorenzetti Angelo.

MARMI LANZA VERONA: Latelli (L), Groppi 1, Colaci, Sottile, Della Lunga 9, Lasko 2, Kovar 6, Curti 1, Holt 3, Kromm 5, Howard 3. DNP Galabinov, Peslac. Coach. Bagnoli Bruno.

Piacenza grabbed a convincing win at home against Verona. The hosts did everything well, putting pressure on the opponent thanks to a constantly accurate serve and an excellent work at the net. There were minutes at the end of sets for Sequeira and Grassano, who allowed Zlatanov and Marshall to rest for a few points, but most importantly it enabled the coach to try something different. Verona could not cope with Piacenza’s character, it seemed to put its head down at times, there might be a difference of level technically but it never threatened the hosts. Yet another great game for Zlatanov: 4 aces in the first set and the MVP award in the end.

Novica Bjelica (Copratlantide Piacenza): “It was important to get the win after the failure of the last home games. We had a good game and managed to put into practice what the coach wanted, and what we had done during the week in training”.

Bruno Bagnoli (Marmi Lanza Verona): “Congratulations to Piacenza, but we have to keep our feet on the ground. We have to be more daring in these games: we have nothing to lose. I am disappointed with the attitude of my boys. You have to be more audacious and aggressive to make it difficult for such teams, otherwise if you back down just an inch, you’re out of it”.

SISLEY TREVISO – ARAN CUCINE ABRUZZO PINETO 3-1 (25-20, 25-12, 26-28, 25-23) –

SISLEY TREVISO: Carletti, Fei 25, Horstink 17, Papi 9, Farina (L), Kohut 5, De Togni 5, Bontje 12, Maruotti 5, Garcia 1. DNP Sabbi, Vanin, Cuda. Coach. Piazza Roberto.

ARAN CUCINE ABRUZZO PINETO: Ravellino 13, Perez Moreno 2, Roberts 7, Modica, Lampariello (L), Henrique 1, Sborgia 5, Di Franco, Perazzolo 2, Ereu 18, Gradinarov 11. DNP Centorame, Armeti. Coach. Brutti Alessandro.

Rested in the last round, Treviso got back in action the best possible way, beating Pineto (which won at the Palaverde last season) and moving up the table again. The first two sets were perfect, Pineto showed pride in the third and made it tough in the fourth too for the hosts. Treviso eventually sealed it thanks to the determination of Fei and an excellent Papi, MVP of the game.

Roberto Piazza (Sisley Treviso): “Not a great game: The first two sets went perfectly because everything worked out fine, tactically as well as mentally, we had the momentum. We psychologically faded in the third, allowing Pineto to get back in it. We did come back strong but we should have sealed it straight away. This is something we’ll have to work on. Then, in the fourth, we did well to turn things around when it was getting complicated. We did it thanks to the strength of the group, a positive Fei and Papi. We’re glad to take those three points, we know we must improve some more, at the net for example”.

Alessandro Brutti (Aran Cucine Abruzzo Pineto): “The positive aspect of this game has been the reaction of the team, which fought hard right until the end, coming close to a tie-break. We still have to find the right chemistry, tactically too. Everybody has to fight for his place in the team, even if the six that finished the game for us could be the ideal one”.

RPA-LUIGIBACCHI.IT PERUGIA – ESSE-TI CARILO LORETO 3-0 (25-21, 25-17, 25-19) –

RPA-LUIGIBACCHI.IT PERUGIA: Savani 16, Cernic 8, Nemec 2, Botti 3, Sintini 1, Pippi (L), Stokr 15, Bovolenta 7. DNP Bucaioni, Ogurcak, Lo Bianco, Fanuli, Petruzzo. Coach. Sartoretti Andrea.

ESSE-TI CARILO LORETO: De Angelo Freitas 11, Marra (L), Marzola, Diachkov, Dolfo 9, Visentin 1, Vigilante 13, Paoli 1, Cester 3, Shumov 2. DNP Belcecchi. Coach. Rampazzo Federico.

Perugia swept Loreto. Diachkov was back on the bench following the traffic accident in which he was involved with teammate Van Dijk, still in hospital. MVP: Cristian Savani.

Luca Moretti (Esse-ti Carilo Loreto): “It’s true that we’re missing two important players but we can’t afford the lack of concentration I’ve seen today against Perugia. Hopefully, we’ll find a solution very soon because Van Dijk will be out long term. We can’t afford to lose time, the championship will not be waiting for us”.

Jan Stokr (RPA- LuigiBacchi.it Perugia): “We always start the sets poorly, but fortunately we manage to improve as time goes by. Sintini distribute a lot to the centers and spikers, which allow us to attack from different angles. I’m happy for me too, because  I finally managed to do four blocks, it’s an area where I had not been at my best yet”.
