Serie A1 TIM

9th Round

Three teams will not play this weekend. While Cuneo is the team rested, the Trentino versus Modena game has been postponed to the 12th of November as the European Champs are flying to Qatar for the FIVB Men’s Club World Championship, taking place in Doha from the 3rd to the 8th of November. The 9th round will begin on Saturday afternoon with Macerata versus Latina, which will be live on Rai Sport Più from 4pm. The other games will take place on Sunday with Piacenza, five points behind the leaders Trento, hosting Verona. Rested in the last round, Treviso faces Pineto, which only met Treviso twice, winning both encounters. Monza and Perugia respectively entertain Forli and Loreto. Vibo Valentia will be live on Rai Sport Più as it plays host to Taranto (6pm).

Lube Banca Marche Macerata – Andreoli Latina

PAST ENCOUNTERS: 18 (15-3 Macerata)

Lorenzo Smerilli (Lube Banca Marche Macerata): “Latina needs points to get away from the danger zone, so they’ll come here all out, hoping for a result. They have made a lot of changes this summer, a young team with a great potential. We’ll have to be careful, be extremely focused in order to be consistent. We have taken advantage of this second full week of training to train well in the weight room and on court. Our target for Saturday’s game is obviously to claim a third successive win, but we also want to show further progress in our performance”.

Gianpaolo Medei (Andreoli Latina): “It will be a great emotion for me to get back in the Fontescodella gym, against the team of my city, it’s where I grew up. I came up in Macerata and I spent intense years full of success. It will be a tough game for us, but we’ve always shown our best against the big teams, even though we haven’t gathered any points”.

Tonno Callipo Vibo Valentia – Prisma Taranto

PAST ENCOUNTERS: 6 (4 successi Vibo Valentia, 2 successi Taranto)

Jon Uriarte (Tonno Callipo Vibo Valentia): “We had faded a bit in previous encounters but we recharged our batteries with the win against Pineto. I’m asking my boys continuity, concentration, to take advantage of the two consecutive home games. A win against Taranto would do us a lot of good in the league table”.

Federico Moretti (Prisma Taranto): “I’m preparing Sunday’s game with great determination just like the rest of the team. We really want to bounce back. I have a big responsibility because it’s not easy to substitute last season’s best player (Rivaldo is injured). I was training with the reserve just a few days ago and I had found a good understanding with the second setter Quartarone. Now, I’m trying to get the feeling with Suxho, who is a great setter. Vibo Valentia has great servers and excellent spikers. They also have the court advantage, the crowd makes its presence felt there. It will be a nice challenge”.

Acqua Paradiso Monza – Yoga Forlì

PAST ENCOUNTERS: None

Mauro Berruto (Acqua Paradiso Monza): “Forli is a dangerous team, I think they haven’t had much luck so far. It will be a crucial test for us, we want to keep our positive streak going. In this league, you can’t afford to lower your guard one second. You have to keep your rhythm and keep focused, and that’s what we’ll try to do on Sunday”.

Piero Molducci (Yoga Forlì): “Hopefully we will have Maric and Moretti back for the Monza game. Moretti played the beginning of the first game of the season and got injured. At times, we’re struggling but we want to play a good game on Sunday. We’ll see what happens”.

CoprAtlantide Piacenza – Marmi Lanza Verona

PAST ENCOUNTERS: 12 (10 successi Piacenza. 2 successi Verona)

Dante Boninfante (CoprAtlantide Piacenza): “We finally finished this tour de force. We were a bit tired, like the others I guess. With so many games in so little time, we could only prepare the game in a technical/tactical way, without however doing the necessary training sessions. There are great fans in Verona that follow the team. They have had ups and downs, but they also obtained great results. This just doesn’t happen by chance. They have become more consistent lately and are finding their identity”.

Maurizio Latelli (Marmi Lanza Verona): “Piacenza possesses great spikers and they have Rak back. They are as balanced as last season in the playoffs now, it will very tough. We are in good shape too, we will go for it”.

Sisley Treviso – Aran Cucine Abruzzo Pineto

PAST ENCOUNTERS: 2 (Pineto won both)

Alessandro Fei (Sisley Treviso): “The break came useful to us as we needed to recharge the batteries. The beginning of the season has been very intense and we spent a lot of energy but I’ve seen the team in good shape this week in training, physically but also mentally, there was a good harmony. We lost against Modena home, and I have to say, we can still taste the bitter taste of the defeat, now we have to get back to winning ways at the PalaVerde against Pineto. I don’t know much about this team, apart from Perazzolo, Max Di Franco and Ravellino. We will study it in order to play a good game and win on Sunday”.

Massimiliano Di Franco (Aran Cucine Abruzzo Pineto): “I had five splendid seasons in Treviso, three in the youth academy and two in the first team, with which I won the league title and the Cev Cup. These our unforgettable moments for me. We were a bit disheartened after Wednesday’s game. We just can’t explain such a debacle, in the level of play and score. Treviso is obviously not the team we’d have liked to face right now, but we’ll have to find the resources to have a good game, hoping to get something out of it”.

RPA-LuigiBacchi.it Perugia – Esse-ti Carilo Loreto

PAST ENCOUNTERS: 2 (1 each)

Bino Rizzuto (RPA-LuigiBacchi.it Perugia): “It’s an important game which we can’t afford to lose. In its last two encounters, Perugia made significant progress, it is improving. They are starting to gel. We worked better at the net against Pineto, which is something we had not done very well this season. We are stronger than Loreto, but we can’t underestimate our opponent in order not to repeat mistakes made in the past”.

Filippo Belcecchi (Esse-ti Carilo Loreto): “We will go all out in this game, we’ll go for points after the Trentino defeat. Van Dijk and Diachkov will still be out, which means we have to get on court with maximum fighting spirit to make up for the absentees. Perugia is a very strong team with great players so we’ll give our hundred percent in this game too to try to get a positive result”.
