In the game for third place in the Champions League, Macerata surrendered at the tie-break. De Giorgi’s men found themselves trailing two sets to nil but, led by Podrascanin and Monopoli, they managed to tie the game. However, the good work of Giba and co at the net combined with a bad day on the serve for Macerata meant the Russians finished third of the competition.

It will now be extremely important for the Italian team to get over the disappointment of the Final Four to render at its best in the league.
