The whole Italian derby in the Champions League semi final went to Trentino, who proved to be more efficient and showed very few weaknesses. Trento escaped half way through the first set as Macerata strarted to falter both in attack and on the serve. Omrcen’s two mistakes to end the set gave a good picture of how the game began.

The second set was a carbon copy of the first. Macerata seemed to be nervy and Trentino took full advantage, going 2-0 up on a Swiderski mistake.

Macerata’s coach tried to turn things round sending Snippe for Swiderski. It seemed to work out perfectly as they rushed off the starting blocks to lead 7-1 but Trento was having none of it and pegued them back at 12 apiece. Trento had the momentum and with some spectacular blocks from Winiarski it gained 5 set points once again. This time though, Macerata went back within one. Coach Stoychev did not call timeout and he was proved right as Vissotto smashed the winner down.

In its debut season in the Champions League, Trento continues to shine and it will play the final tomorrow at 5.30 against Gulinelli’s Iraklis team, who beat Odintsovo in the other semi final.
