SERIE A1 TIM
ITAS DIATEC TRENTINO CONSOLIDATE LEADERSHIP
Cuneo did not appear as brilliant as it had been in its last 13 outings and let the victory in the big game to Trentino. The Italian Champs were stronger in attack, led by Grbic, and registered their seventh consecutive win (league and Europe) on a 3-0 score.
Forli excelled once again against a top team of this league. Still, just like seven days ago, it the excellent performance against Macerata was not enough to get a point. Macerata is now level on points with Cuneo. Igor Omrcen stood out with 31 points.
Uriarte continues to be successful as his team inflicted a 3-0 to Modena and kept its dream of a playoffs spot alive. Another one to keep dreaming, but to stay up, is Padova, who swept Martina Franca. Bruno Bagnoli’s boys built their victory on the serve and blocks. The team did well not to be distracted by the fact that Ramon Gato left the club by mutual consent with the staff.
Two encounters were decided at the tie-break: Montichiari versus Piacenza and Perugia versus Verona. Piacenza registered a spectacular comeback which, after the Champions League exit, will boost the team’s confidence. Perugia keeps increasing its record of consecutive win. Its 8th consecutive victim was Verona, who still got an important point out of it in the race for the playoffs.

Robert Horstink (Acqua Paradiso Gabeca Montichiari): “I’ll repeat exactly what i said last Sunday after the Verona game: When we play well we’re very strong, but when we start a set and things don’t go according to plan, we can’t seem to be able to react. Next is Trentino, it will be a very tough one. It’s a shame we lost this one because we could have got a better result”.
Christian Pampel (Copra Nordmeccanica Piacenza): “I was convinced we could do well, but I was not as sure that we could win it. The first two sets were very difficult for us, but then we managed to get back in it because we improved on our serve. All in all, we played well, but Montichiari were not bad either”.

Bruno Bagnoli (Antonveneta Padova): “We played with character. We really wanted this win and we got it against an excellent team. We did a good job of putting them under pressure: the 8 aces and 11 blocks is a clear testimony of our aggresiiveness from the first to the last minute. We managed to be incisive in the key moments too”.
Manuel Coscione (Stamplast Martina Franca): “Padova believed in it, unfortunately we didn’t. We digged well, but we were not as effective in attack. This is our problem since the beginning of the year. Now we have to bounce back”.

Vigor Bovolenta (RPA-LuigiBacchi.it Perugia): “This has been the toughest of the last four or five matches. We needed a difficult game like this because we were getting used too much to winning without fighting too hard. We managed to win it and that’s what matters”.
Daniele Sottile (Marmi Lanza Verona): “We got a point but are a bit disappointed. Still, we showed once more what is our main strength: the character. This point will be very important for the league table anyway”.

Emanuele Birarelli (Itas Diatec Trentino): “We had a great performance. Our opponent focused on their serve, but they did not get what they wanted out of it and they made many mistakes. We struggled a bit against their middleblockers, but we had decided to focus on their main men, Wijmans and Nikolov”.
Vladimir Nikolov (Bre Banca Lannutti Cuneo): “It’s great to be back here because we did something exceptional here last year. It was fantastic to receive such a nice welcoming, the fans have been great. As for the games, we faced the leaders, who are superior than us in every department of the game”.

From Tuesday, we’ll have to focus exclusively on the Verona game and work like we did in the past few days. Thanks to our fans who supported us from start to finish”.
Emanuele Zanini (Trenkwalder Modena): “We really have to forget about the disapointment for thos defeat. We definitely prepared the game well, but on the court we did not follow our plans at all. Congratulations to Vibo valentia, who, in my opinion, had a great performance”.
