SERIE A1 TIM

Tie-break win for Cuneo

Trento sole leader

There is only one leader in the A1: Trentino who swept Modena and took advantage of the tie-break between Cuneo and Macerata. In the remake of the cup final, it was Cuneo who won this time, reacting well after losing the second 37-39 and trailing 2-1. Cuneo was without Wijmans while setter Javier Gonzalez shined with 10 points.

Perugia registered a seventh consecutive win, at the expense of a revamped Piacenza, beaten 3-0. Coach Angelo Lorenzetti had to changed it all once again as Marshall and Zlatanov were out. Perugia did not get unfazed by the many substitutions made during the game and recorded the longest winning streak of the club’s history.

At the bottom of the table, the crucial games all ended in the fifth set, Vibo Valentia, Pineto and Forli all snatched a point against the bigger-named teams Treviso (without Fei), Montichiari and Martina Franca. This means the situation at this end of the table remains unchanged.

Renato Felizardo (RPA-LuigiBacchi.it Perugia): “They were not at their best, but for us the form of our opponent does not really matter. The important thing is to play well and obtain some important points, like today’s. I’ve had an excellent performance, especially in attack and that’s why I was named Mvp”.

Angelo Lorenzetti (Copra Nordmeccanica Piacenza): “I had asked my boys to give me an excellent performace, to play with heart right until the last point. In the first set, we struggled to find our rhythm, we could have done better. Bjelica in position 4 is something we thought of on friday. He was the most courageous player and played with fighting spirit. I can assure you that in Volleyball, you don’t get very far if you don’t play with heart. It’s sometimes more important than the technique. I really have great players”.
