Piacenza completed the last four of the Italian A1 Cup with a 3-0 sweep of Montichiari. On Saturday, it will play the holders of the competition, Macerata, at 4.15pm.
There was nothing Montichiari could do against such a strong and determined opponent. What was presented as the tightest contest of the four quarter finals ended in straight sets but was still a hard fought game as predicted.
Marco Meoni (Copra Nordmeccanica Piacenza): “We’re happy with the result. This was a very difficult game and the result does not reflect Montichiari’s value. Now we have one day to rest before Saturday’s meeting with Macerata”.
Mauro Berruto (Acqua Paradiso Gabeca Montichiari): “In the first two sets, we had a good approach to the game, but if I’m not talking about a positive result it’s because we did not take advantage of the many opportunities we had in counter attack. This specific statistic goes clearly to Piacenza’s advantage. Our reception struggled under their serve, which was inconsistent but when it was working it didn’t leave us much chances”.
