SERIE A1 TIM

MACERATA UNBEATABLE HOME

CUNEO GOES TOP

With just one game left to play, Vibo Valentia versus Pineto on Monday night, the 18th round handed a new league leader. Cuneo beat Verna 3-1 yesterday and took advantage of Trentino’s 3-0 defeat at Macerata to take the first place. Macerata versus Trentino was the big game of the day, one that could have given indication at the top for the rest of the season. Still the final result does not reflect how tight was the game. The first set was the best example: a real battle, Kaziyski and co led during the whole set, until very late on when De Giorgi’s boys came back strong to snatch it 37-35. Both teams are now one point behind Cuneo.

Piacenza came back from Modena with a 3-1 victory despite some physical problems hindering the team. Meoni and Marshall played a part in the first two sets and became starters in the third, as the Cuban shined with 15 points. Zlatanov stood out as well, he was named MVP. On the other bench, coach Zanini had to make do without Pietro Rinaldi, substituted by Cristian Casoli

Perugia summed up its fifth consecutive win, showing the group finally gelled perfectly. Stockr and co won away at Padova, who remains bottom of the table. Treviso did well too, winning 3-1 in Martina Franca, as Gustavo and Fei were the main scorers. Finally, Forli grabbed a precious point forcing Montichiari to play a tie-break. Haldane stood out with 6 aces.

Emanuele Zanini (Trenkwalder Modena): “There is nothing I can reproach to my boys, who had the right attitude. It’s a shame we did not convert some important plays to force a fifth set. When Meoni and Marshall came on, they game Piacenza the experience and power in attack”.

Hristo Zlatanov (Copra Nordmeccanica Piacenza): ‘Modena played at its best at the beginning of the game. Then we came up strong and did well to impose our game. Right now, the results are very important because we are tired considering the many games we play in few days’.

ANTONVENETA PADOVA – RPA-LUIGIBACCHI.IT PERUGIA 1-3 (26-28; 25-18; 19-25; 23-25)

Antonveneta Padova: Garghella (L), De Togni 6, Maniero, Raymaekers 11, Kral, Mattera 4, Gato, Perazzolo 13, Kromm 20, Maruotti 20. DNP Gottardo, Meggiolaro. Coach. Bagnoli

Bruno Bagnoli (Antonveta Padova): “We had a good game but we’re disappointed not have taken any points against this strong team of Perugia. Stokr made the difference. I’m satisfied with the excellent performance of Maruotti and it’s nice to see Perazzolo back on court”.

Vincenzo Di Pinto (RPA-LuigiBacchi.it Perugia): “Padova made it difficult for us, but we did a good job of keeping focused, we deserve the win. In the second set, we faded a bit in attack, but we regained our consistency to seal the game”.

STAMPLAST MARTITNA FRANCA – SISLEY TREVISO 1-3 (25-23; 18-25; 23-25; 22-25)

Stamplast Martina Franca: Ricciardello (L), Coscione 1, Stancu, Cernic 17, Mastrangelo 11, Corsini 8, Sequeira, Quartarone, Granvorka 13, Rodriguez 11. DNP Guglielmi, Stoijkovic. Coach. D’Onghia

Sisley Treviso: Fei 19, Hubner 13, Papi 7, Farina (L), Antonov, Endres 15, Cisolla 14, Garcia 2. DNP Kohut, Saitta, Vedovotto Filippo, Daldello. Coach. Dall’Olio

Gianni DOnghia (Stamplast Martina Franca): “We might have been able to take a point but Treviso made very few mistakes from the second set on. Unfortunately, the serve was the difference. We forced quite a bit but made a lot of mistakes too, while they were more consistent in the clutch time. I’m still satisfied with the performance of my players. We played face to face with a top team”.

Samuele Papi (Sisley Treviso): “We arrived very concentrated in Martina because we knew many teams struggled on this court. In the first set, we made too many mistakes, while in the successive ones, we were more incisive. This is three crucial points given how close to us they are in the table. We jump-served very well putting them under pressure  and our dig and game at the net was good too”.

YOGA FORLI – ACQUA PARADISO GABECA MONTICHIARI 2-3 (15-25; 25-22; 23-25; 25-16; 12-15)

Yoga Forl: Bendi, Henno (L), Molteni 23, Bittar 17, Haldane 11, Redwitz 3, Di Franco, Casadei, Loglisci 7, Dolfo, Patriarca 10. DNP Bozko. Coach. Molducci

Acqua Paradiso Gabeca Montichiari: Sala 12, Rauwerdink 1, Pesenti 1, Horstink 22, Tiberti, Paparoni 10, Esko 1, Forni, Howard 10, Bellei, Gavotto 27, Zito (L), Mani (L). Coach. Berruto

Hubert Henno (Yoga Forli): “It’s a shame we started our championship only in 2009. Now, we’re playing, digging, we can still improve on the block but we’re doing OK. We’re playing decent volleyball, which shows we still have our chances to stay in this league”.

Mikko Esko (Acqua Paradiso Gabeca Montichiari): “They made it very difficult for us, especially thanks to their serve against which we struggled during the whole game. Still, we managed to add up another win to this nice season”.

LUBE BANCA MARCHE MACERATA – ITAS DIATEC TRENTINO 3-0 (37-35; 29-27; 25-19)

Lube Banca Marche Macerata: Lebl 10, Giovi (L), Vermiglio 1, Bartoletti, Martino 15, Monopoli, Santana 3, Omrcen 20, Swiderski 17, Podrascanin 2. DNP Snippe, Saraceni. Coach. De Giorgi

Itas Diatec Trentino: Kaziyski 15, Segnalini (L), Della Lunga 8, Vissotto Neves 14, Grbic 2, Winiarski, Garcia Pires Ribeiro 6, Bari (L), Stefanov, Piscopo 6. DNP Zygadlo, De Paola, Leonardi. Coach. Stoytchev

Ferdinando De Giorgi (Lube Banca Marche Macerata): “We got this win with our pride, this team has always proved it had great character and today again they did it in front of an amazing crowd. The key moment were obviously the comeback in the first set but also some important plays in the second, when Trento had cancelled out a 5-point gap as it seemed they were taking control. I would like to say a word on Giovi: To start in the league in such a game would have been no easy task for anyone, but he did extremely well”.

Radostin Stoytchev (Itas Diatec Trentino): “We’re very disappointed, especially for the first set, if we had won it, it would have been a whole new ball game. Macerata made it difficult for us, especially when you let them build on their enthusiasm. We failed to make our mark, above all at the net”.
