It will be an inedit challenge this year given Trento gets there for the very first time.
In total, Itas Diatec Trentino and Copra Nordmeccanica Piacenza will meet for the 18th time, 9 of which have been won by Piacenza and 8 by Trento.
5 the previous meetings in the playoffs, all in the quarterfinals 2004/05. In that case Piacenza won the series 3-2.
TWO COACHES FACE TO FACE
First championship in Italy and first championship final. That is what Radostin Stoychev has achieved in this tournament, after 25 victories and only 5 defeats.
Only the Brasilian Bebeto got to the final before him, at his first experience in the Italian championship. It was the 1990/91 season, when he was on Maxicono Parma’s bench who lost to Messaggero Ravenna.
Angelo Lorenzetti can also be proud of his prestigious CV in the playoffs. In his three partecipation he hs always reched the final: on two occasions with Modena (2001/02 abd 2002/03) and with Piacenza this year.
curious to remember that he won the title the first time he got to the final, bringing it back to Modena after 4 years.
TRENTO NEVER SO HIGH
This will be the first historical final for Itas Diatec Trentino. An even the whole city was waiting for and now wants to take in in one breath.
In the seven seasons in Serie A1, Trento arrived to the semifinals once. It was the 2005/06 season, which they lost 3-1 to Sisley Treviso.
The other 4 times, the team stopped at the quarterfinals while the first two years in A1 they did not get to the playoffs. In the Italian Cup Trento never got passed the semifinals, that happened in 2001/02 and 2005/06.
PIACENZA AT THEIR THIRD CHAMPIONSHIP FINAL
This will be the third championship final for Copra Nordmeccanica Piacenza. In the previous two occasions, they lost to Sisley Treviso both times. It was the 2003/04 and 2006/07 seasons.
On the top of that they played 6 more in other competitions. The first one in 2001/02 for the Italian Cup A2, won against Forli.
In 2003/04 they lost the Cev Cup against Modena, in 2005/06 the Top Team Cup won against Portol, and the Italian Cup lost against Cuneo this season.
Last year the defeat in the final act of the Cev Cup, while on the 30th of march this yeat, the final lost in the Indesit Champions League against Dinamo Kazan.

QUARTERFINALS, MATCH 1: PROGRAMME AND REFEREES
The Serie A2 TIM playoffs are kicking off too. On thursday the first 8 teams at the end of the regular season, will give birth to match 1 of the quarterfinals.
All on court at 18.00. Match 2 is scheduled for sunday the 4th of may, still at 18.00, while Match 3, if needed, will be played on the 7th of may at 20.30 at the grounds of the team better qualified at the end of the regular season.
