ITAS DIATEC PER FIRST TIME ITALIAN CHAMPIONS
Here’s the Club’s history
Trentino Volley’s adventure in Serie A starts on the 23rd of may 2000, when just after being established, the purchase the sport title of an historical Club, Ravenna.
From the beginning they stick out for their organisational and management level, but also from a sport point of view with the results they obtain: factors that conquer the local audience for 5 consecutive seasons making them the most numberous from 2001 to 2005. In the 2003/04 season, Trento wins the Regular Season, on court with the other Mr. Century Lorenzo Bernardi. In the 2006 playoffs they touch the title, beaten in the semifinals by Treviso.
Last summer they re established themselves with the purchase of players like Nikolov and Grbic, and after an exausting deal Matey Kazyiski joins them too.
But that is not it: Birarelli, Jeronic, Bednaruk and Stoyanov arrive. A revolution on the bench too with the arrival of Bulgarian coach Radostin Stoychev, coming from Dinamo Mosca where he was the team’s ass. coach.
The start is not bad, 5 consecutive victories in the first 6 matches. At the end of the first leg 3 are the defeats and Itas Diatec closes in third place putting them in the first eight teams to play for the Italian Cup 2008. Not a happy experience in the Cup being elimiated in the quarterfinals by Treviso.
the beginning of the second leg marks a decisive change of gear for Stoychev’s team winning 10 matches in a row up to the tie break defeat against Piacenza.
On the penultimate round one their only defeat at PalaTrento by Sisley. A balck mark which affects the first place in the standings at the end of the regular season.
The playoffs start and Trento faces Modena in the quarterfinals. Itas Diatec wins the two matches and flies to the semifinals against M. Roma Volley of the ex Savani. Another two victories arrive against the romans, this time for 3-0 while on the other side Copra Nordmeccanica Piacenza comes out as the winner, after beating Cuneo and Treviso in match 3.
The Finals series is a condense of pure pathos. Trento wins match 1 for 3-0, Piacenza replies successfully at tie break. But in the finals match, Piacenza’s pride must bow to Trento’s strength and their Blugarian conduction.
Trento wins again and they become history in the Italian Volleyball world.

The ex Cycler: “What an emotional title”
We all remember him for being solid at crucial times. the finals miles.
At PalaTrento, cheering for Itas, the ex cyclist Maurizio Fondriest was there. born in Cles in the province of Trento.
He was there to witness his team’s final rush for the title. A match on various stages like the ones he took part in around the world.
The most emotional one was the 1988 one in Belgium, when Maurizio won the World Championship. It is the success that makes him one of the most loved sport person. Exactly 20 years ago. A coincidence that has him go back on the bike for a remembering trip for charity which will see him going from cles to Rome.
But in his career there is space for many titles, like the two individual world cups, a Tirreno-Adriatic and a prestious Milan-Sanremo, including two Giro d’Italia, just to mention the most significant ones.
It is 21,54 when Kazyiski attack the last ball of the match, the one that wins the title. Celebrations begin and he is amongst hundreds of supporters who came to cheer their team. Fondriest compliments the stars then a few words with president Mosna. He is moved and you can see that, because his town, Trento, has crossed the most beautiful line.
“The team deserves this title – he says – they have played a beautiful championship from the first to the last match. the third match of the final was balanced in the first set only. then from Nikolov to Kazyiski they became more and more confident with it. In the third set they really took over. I follow Volleyball a lot. My daughter plays this sport so I always keep an eye on what happens; when I was little I used to enjoy playing it at school”
Trento’s audience is very warm – he adds – they proved it tonight. But what I always notice when I come to a volleyball match is the sport spirit of the people in the stands. Both teams supporters sitting together without having to be watched by the police. There is no rivalry, but just the willingness to support their team and that makes it a great party”.
Tifosi delle due squadre seduti vicini senza forza d’ordine che controlla o divide. Non c’è rivalità, ma solo la volontà di tifare per la propria squadra e questo fa si che sia tutto una grande festa”.
“Kazyiski has something more than the others, maybe he pays for something in reception but if we put everything on the plate, including his young age, you can say he is the best one. But this was a title won by the whole group. Winiarski has a crystal class, Nikolov has shown his heavy arm tonight as well. Let’s not forget the other players like Grbic, Birarelli, Jeronic and Bari”
“Tonight will stay in Trento’s mind for a long time, infact it is an historical evening. In team sports it is a unique victory which goes along side with the individual ones, like mine and Moser’s. But I am sure. Mosna’s men’s first title will make history”.
