Itas Diatec Trentino champions of Italy!!!! Radostin Stoychev’s team beat Copra Nordmeccanica Piacenza for 3-0 and win the 2007/08 title.
An unforgettable result, in fron of over 4000 people who cheered for Stoychev’s team through the whole match and who at the end exploded in a long liberating scream to celebrated the new Italian Champions in the best possible way.
Itas make their dream come true then, confirming once again how PalaTrento is their own home. An exiting success but worked hard ofr, at least in the first part of the match, when a great Copra Nordmeccanica Piacenza have done really well fighting with the knife between their teeth thanks to a great start at serving (4 aces in the first set).
Once contained the initial roar, led by Kazyiski, by Jeronic’s blocks (decisive against Zlatanov) and Nikolov’s serves, they managed to fill the 4 points gap (4-8) and win for 29-27.
Won that set everything went downhill because Grbic & Co. have not given Copra any more chances.
A well deserved match that rewards a season when Itas has only known 6 defeats (5 in the RS and 1 in the Playoffs). For Trentino Volley this is the second ever title of their history after the under 18 one in 2005. Non of the players had ever won it before.
“This is a great satisfaction – comments Stoychev – because it has been a suffered championship with a lot of work carried out and many physical problems. But we still have a lot of work to do and this audience deserves many satisfactions. I dedicate this title to my mother who died last week and whom I miss so much”.
