Two of the teams of Serie A1 TIM used to play tiebreaks, Lube Banca Marche Macerata and Cimone Modena, played in the first match of the TIM Cup A1 Final Eight. Everyone was waiting for a long match, but it didn’t happen. Lube Banca Marche Macerata started with a big determination that could be seen in the eyes of Vermiglio and teammates. They did not get distracted even when Rodrigao got injured at his knee. The percentages are all in favour of Macerata: 9 blocks against 4 of Modena. In attack the 61% of positivity for Omrcen and 54% for the whole team. Bad numbers for Cimone with 30 point errors.
THE MATCH – The beginning of the match is for Cimone Modena that starts with big calm. The reaction of Lube Banca Marche Macerata arrives in a second and its game is simply spectacular. A break of 6-1 for Valerio Vermiglio and teammates. Lube Banca Marche Macerata keeps scoring points and Modena starts to have big problems in attack with all its spikers. Giani tries some changings and replaces Nascimento with Sartoretti, but the percentage in attack for Modena is still very low, only 30%. Little fear for Lube on 21-14 when Rodrigao had a knee injury. De Giorgi replaces him with Geric and the sets goes to Macerata with the score of 25-16.
Modena shows some reaction in the second set. Ricardo forces the game as much as he can and uses a lot his middleblockers. It is the right decision because the match goes on point to point and the set is very tight. Macerata is always a little behind in the score, the first advantage arrives when the score is 17-16. Cimone Modena compromises a very important set. Igor Omrcen is huge, but the difference for Macerata is in the blocks. Andrea Giani tries to use Sartoretti at the serve and Modena is able to tie the score up at 21-21. Then a mistake on the serve helps Macerata to go ahead 23-21 and then closes the set to go 2-0.
Nothing changes in the third set. Modena made a lot of mistakes at the serve. But on the third set a huge Angel Dennis keeps up the team: 13-13. He is the best of his team. But Lube keeps the control of the match. The score is always tight but Macerata seems to play in a safe and controlling way. Modena shows once again to not be able to handle the most important moments of the match and made few more mistakes in attack and with the serve. Lube takes the chance and goes to Milan where the team will play in the semifinal against Bre Banca Lannutti Cuneo.
